I didn't know that I could look at the other census' free. I know that it is a free weekend for the 1911 one on Ancestry, so I concentrated on that one. Which ones can I go on for free and are there any other records I can get for free. I really do like looking things up for myself but don't want to pay for a subscription as they are so expensive.
The other free site I use a lot is the Commonwealth War Graves Commision records if looking for a death in WW1. Others are also available. You just have to surf the web and see what you can find. A lot of local communities now have local records on a web site with free access
Also dont be scared to email different libraries and archives in the area you are looking at. Most are helpful and if they dont have the info they will put you in the right direction.
And then there are members here who will help and/or advise on where you might find what your looking for.
