Hi Dave,

I seem to recall reading in one of your threads, that the Twine family has Gloucestershire connections, but can’t find it now!

Anyway, for your consideration only, there is a “stray” Frances Twine in Thorrnbury Glos, in 1841.

Name: Frances Twine
Age: 7
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1834
Gender: Female
Where born: Gloucestershire
Civil parish: Cromhall Abbots Cromhall Lygon
County: Gloucestershire
Registration district: Thornbury
Sub-registration district: Thornbury

Isaac Heeling/Herling 49? Labourer N
Sarah Heeling/Herling 47 Y
Rebecca Heeling/Herling 7
Thomas Ford 20 Ag Lab y
John Ford 19 Coal miner Y
Frances Twine 7 F S Y

Could F S mean Female Servant?

I probably won't have much time to spare today - packing etc! :(

Catch up next week!

Hello Dave,

I've just found the marriage of Isaac Keeling and Sarah Ford. It took place at St James' church in Bristol, Gloucester on 18th August 1833. (Source FS.)

This explains the Ford connection above - maybe nephews, or sons from a previous marriage?

Unfortunately, it doesn't shed any light on the presence of Frances!

Hello Josie,

Thanks for looking.

Yes, there is a Gloucestershire connection. Normally I'd say F S = Female Servant but Frances is 7! But name and age do fit.

William Robert TWINE c. 29 Jul 1834 Bullo Pill, Newnham, Gloucester, England - private IGI

In the marriage notice William is called the 3rd son so between 1831 and 1834 Job & Ann had Frances and two other sons, names unknown. Only William and the 3 younger ones are mentioned as arriving in 1849, not that I can find the shipping record. So perhaps Frances arrived earlier with 2 brothers. ???

Ok next week I night be 1000km away on a different part of my tree. :2fun:

Enjoy your time away from here. ;)

Regards,

Dave

I think I've found one of those two missing sons. A marriage in Qld.:

1860/B025 Twine James - Johnston Mary

Mother should be Ann but this is his death:

1890/B23321 Twine James - Job - Elizabeth

And the other:

Marriage in NSW:

V1855278 82/1855 TWINE FREDERICK W - MACLEAN MARY A JI= Presbyterian Bathurst

Death 4913/1905 TWINE FREDERICK W - JOB ELIZABETH GLEBE

Interesting that both have Elizabeth as their mother's name.

Do we have a different Job TWINE married to Elizabeth?

Can't see a death in Australia for a 2nd Job.

The 1831 marriage and her death just have Anne (CUMBERLAND) and nothing to indicate it was Anne E or Elizabeth Anne.

Ok, what if Job was married to Elizabeth before he married Anne in 1831.

Spouse: Elizabeth FLETCHER
Marriage: 14 Apr 1824 Great Gaddesden, Hertford

groom's name: Job Twine

Privately submitted IGI records for 3 TWINE children:

James Fletcher c.3 Mar 1826 Bullo Pill, Newnham, Gloucester

Frances Cumberland c. 11 Mar 1828 Bullo Pill, Newnham, Gloucester

Frederick William c. 24 May 1830 Bullo Pill, Newnham, Gloucester

When did these three arrive in Australia? It was not with Job & Ann and Ann's 4 children. It is claimed they arrived in 1849 on the 'Lima' to Queensland.

Index to the Unassisted Arrivals NSW 1842-1855
TWINE Mr, Mrs, Fam Lima P 17 Oct 1849 London SMH Lima Co Ltd

TWINE Miss Tamar P 27 Nov 1849 Moreton Bay SMH

TWINE Mr London P 12 Sep 1854 Melbourne 400
TWINE Mr London P 12 Sep 1854 Melbourne SMH Irvine in SR list

Something is odd. Why has Frances a middle name Cumberland which is the family name of Job's 2nd wife Anne CUMBERLAND? The death reg for Frances has father = Thomas and mother = Ann !!! If Frances is Anne's child why didn't she arrive with the other 4 children?

Frederick and James both have mother as Elizabeth on death reg. It would just fit if Frederick and Frances swapped birth dates. ??? EDIT: Burial record confirms Frederick born in 1830.

When did Elizabeth die? Possible:

name: Elizabeth Tween
gender: Female
burial date: 04 Oct 1830
burial place: Stanstead-Abbots, Hertford, England
death date:

Frances Twine 7 F S Y
The extracted baptism records for Thomas and John have parents as Thomas FORD and Sarah FORD.

Thomas c. 25 May 1823 Henbury, Gloucester
John William c. 29 Jul 1821 Henbury, Gloucester

I thought Sarah's maiden name might have been FLETCHER, a sister of Job's first spouse, Elizabeth.

Still stuck. Looks like the name is WATKINS.

Thomas FORD & Sarah WATKINS
Marriage: 25 Feb 1819 Henbury, Gloucester

Marriage record says Elizabeth FLETCHER was single so her maiden name was not WATKINS.

Exactly. :2fun:

Another NSW marriage with no entry in the BMD index:

The Sydney Morning Herald - Wednesday 14 July 1852 p.3
MARRIED
By special license, on the 13th Instant, by the Rev. A. Salmon, Mr. James Reid Maxwell, of Sofala, to Frances Cumberland, eldest daughter of Job Twine, Esq., of Grove Farm, Moreton Bay.

Death 3991/1885 MAXWELL FRANCIS C - JOB - ELIZABETH - GLEBE

MAXWELL Frances Cumberland Death notice 26APR1885 Death at Forest Lodge SMH 27APR1885

The Sydney Morning Herald - Monday 27 April 1885 p.1
Deaths.
MAXWELL.-April 26, at Ada-terrace, Old Parramatta-road, Forest Lodge, Sydney, Frances Cumberland, the beloved wife of James R. Maxwell, aged 57 years, eldest daughter of the late J. Twine, Newnham, Gloucestershire, England.

So this marriage is Job's second, his first spouse being Elizabeth.

Job Twine & Anne Cumberland
18 Aug 1831 Walden-St. Paul's, Hertford

Still don't know when Frances arrived in Australia.

If she was baptised in 1828 and her mother was Elizabeth how did she get the middle name Cumberland which was the maiden name of her father's second spouse - 1831 marriage?
