Hello,

From Baines 1822 - Huddersfield
Thomas Kilner Cloth dresser from Crofts Head.
Thomas Kilner Jr, a Overseer of the poor, Castle street.

The only Croft Head I can find is a road named Croft Head (probably much more recent than 1822) in Skelmanthorpe.

I would think in 1822 it refers to a location not a single road but all I keep getting is the head of Croft for a football goal. !!

For Castle street I can find Castle Houses, avenue, lane, Hill, but no Castle street.

I wonder if Castlegate was simply called Castle street in 1822. The Overseer of the poor was usually a church warden so I would expect it to be in the town.

Any thoughts?

Regards,

Dave
