Vera May OSLAND n.s.w birth lookup please

If there are any eyes out there not doing much can you please check the N.S.W BIRTHS for:-

Vera May OSLAND born about 1905 Nabiac N.S.W.

Parents Oswald OSLAND and Elizabeth STACE.

(1939 marriage certificate age is 34, spinster, Nabiac)

Also unable to find her parents marriage.

Can't see a birth 1900 -1909 with vera o* and no parents.

Found this marriage:

3243/1876 CROAKER SAMUEL STACE ELIZABETH MANNING RIVER

Can't find anything on Oswald. Nothing shows up for OSLAND in Trove for the years in question.

Thanks for looking. OK birth not registered.

Vera's father Oswald OSLAND name is on the marriage cert. but there is no evidence that he ever existed. Can't find his B.M.D. zilch.

Yes, there is no sign of an Oswald OSLAND.

I looked in NAA and NSW State Records for a naturalisation, in shipping, in Trove, in AWM, in PROV, in Cemetery Index (lots of OSLAND in Kurri Kurri & Brunkerville), in WorldConnect, in IGI, in Qld. BMD, in FreeBMD, in Ryerson, with Fred.


Do you have Vera's death?

STONE Vera May Death notice 28MAR1991 Death 86 late of Lismore Northern Star (Lismore) 03APR1991

So yes, it looks like birth not registered.

No I don't have her death certificate. Shame her death notice isn't in SMH.

I'm debating whether Oswald is his christian name. Now I have to prove it.

Two Elizabeth OSLAND in 1913 Electoral Roll (no Oswald).

Will have another look in a day or two.

Think i might have found something, maybe the osland fella was her stepfather and her mother was single when she was born. Found this see what you think.

There are a couple of births in Stroud with mother as Elizabeth and father as Henry so not sure if the above is their child or not but thought it was interesting that no father was noted on the index and the name Vera M is right etc.

The name Vera M and STACE fits. The birth date going by age at marriage and age at death is a bit out.

Oswald does not exist. If he did there would be something somewhere. At least Fred appears in the Electoral Roll. :2fun:

I'd say we can rule these two out being way north of Newcastle / Stroud.

I think I jumped a bit far and landed in the water. For a minute I thought Wingham was near Newcastle but it's near Taree.

If you trying to weave out a birth for Vera's mother, this one would be out as Vera was born 1902 so her mother couldnt have been born 5 years later Or have i gotten confused

Just collecting all the Elizabeth STACEs and trying to sort them out.

I saw the Elizabeth Ann and Wingham and marked it red because I thought Wingham was near Stroud.
Then I unmarked it when I realised Wingham was near Taree.

On the off chance the birth for Vera M Stace in 1902 is right then how did she get the last name of Osland, which is her name on her marriage cert. as CP said it states spinster so looks like she wasnt married before

Im not convinced that the birth i found is the right one now

I think it is a Norwegian name. Not as rare in NSW as I expected it to be.

There are some OSLAND births in the Maitland area.

Two deaths in the area but I couldn't find either in Trove.

15911/1937 OSLAND ELIZABETH ALICE WILLIAM ELLEN MAYFIELD
26338/1938 OSLAND ELIZABETH WILLIAM ELEANOR KURRI KURRI

Neither of those match the 1881 or 1882 birth for parents.

Ok

5287/1882 OSLAND WILLIAM JOHN RICHARDS ELIZABETH ALICE WEST MAITLAND

That means the Mayfield one is not nee STACE.

Two other Elizabeths married OSLAND and I can't find either birth to match parents.

It looks as though neither of those deaths is the one for Elizabeth STACE.
