Dunno.

We have no connection between Park st and Paddington unless Sands Directory can provide work and residence addresses.

I can't find an age at death for Wiliam John.

Still can't find spouse Mary's death.

We know the family was CofE/CofI although two of the children married Weslayen but that was because of the two FLETCHERs (aunt and niece).

So have to search CofE Rookwood. At least it's back on-line.

Which ward is Park St. in?
:2fun:

I'm not that old. I'd have to google that.

The "City of Sydney" was established on 20 July 1842 by the Corporation Act which encompasses present-day Woolloomooloo, Surry Hills, Chippendale and Pyrmont, an area of 11.65 km². There were six wards established by boundary posts. A boundary post still exists in front of Sydney Square.

Macquarie and Fitzroy - HERE

20 Park-st would be Macquarie - 1870 (20 Apr) - 1902 (19 Aug)

WALKER WILLIAM JOHN Not Available 04-02-1874

CofE Rookwood
Area : AN Section : J
Row : N/A Block/Plot : N/A
Number :0001050

Can't search by Section.

Not even in the same section as John aged 82/83 who died later that year.

No burials at CofE Rookwood for a Mary Jane or a Cherry - but if they were very early they would not be at Rookwood anyway.

No burial for a Mary 1862 - 1874. Not mentioned in that 1874 notice so perhaps not the right John.

No burial for a Mary 1875 - 1900 in Sections D or J.

Yeah, something not quite right.

John doesn't appear until 1865... There are 2 John Walker's here, but it's Brisbane Ward.

John Walker
Year Range: 1848-1849
District: Sydney
Ward: Brisbane

One in George St., and the other in King St.

No occupations either.

So no help there.

District: Sydney
Ward: Macquarie
[Elizabeth St.]

There's also a Robert Walker on the same street.

Thanks Geoff.

20 Park-st should be on north side between Pitt-st and Castlereagh-st, ie. west of Elizabeth-st.

Last ad that I can find for 20 Park-st is 1863 and by 1872 it has another owner/use.

In 1874 there is a John Walker, alderman of West Botany.

I wonder how many there are in Sydney in 1840 - 1880.

Time for a review I think.

Wonder if this explains what happened to the girls.

The Australian (Sydney, NSW : 1824 - 1848)
Thursday 10 March 1842

Eleven of the emigrants per Woodbridge, from Cork, died during the passage.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...odbridge"&searchLimits=exactPhrase=Woodbridge

There are 2 parts that mention Woodbridge. The above article comes from one three quarters down the page.
Hmmm... possible.

I'll look for the original image and check for deaths, unless you have it..
