577/1848 WALLIS ANNE - WILLIAM - MARY

1587/1854 WALLIS SARAH M - WILLIAM - MARY

Somewhere on this site I have those births and was asking for the Vol. numbers so I could look up the baptisms at the library.

Now I can't find the topic.

It's not the 1901 Census MODEN family one where I again copied the index entries.

Thanks Geoff.

That's not the problem. I now have the images and it's two different families. Mary MAHER and Mary SWEENY.

I can't find where this WALLIS/WALLACE fits in my tree. I have 5 different families and it seems to fit none of them.

I have a mystery relative - GGGfather Richard Switson, who apparently was brought up by a family named Wallis/Wallace somewhere around Goulburn.
He must have called himself Richard Wallis - at least until he married Whyborough Higgs in Sydney in 1859 because she was surprised to discover she was marrying Richard Switson - not Richard Wallis!
This could not be the correct family but just thought it was an amazing coincidence!
I have found a possible family that lived in Bongonia. The other possibility is Henry Wallis, Superintendent of Goulburn Hospital as best I can tell, sometime around 1850??

Whyborough Higgs, that name rings a bell, from Lecestershire, England as I recall... Much fun with the name variants...

Yes - I think it was in the 1841 census Whyborough and her sisters were named Eggs! I can't remeber all the name variants but I have found numerous official records where her surname has been misspelt. Thank goodness she had such an unusual Christian name - otherwise it would have been impossible to track these (mispelt) records down.
