This birth fits for Walter, being the father, but Elizabeth Daxter/Barrow, not the mother. (Slight alteration to my tree then. No first marriage to Walter found, and no birth found, to confirm the mother).

Sydney Thomas Bedford, BIRTH 1888 • Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand.

Sydneys mother must have died New Zealand.

Just to confuse matters, Elizabeth Barrow's parents, are both Barrow's........John Barrow married Mary Barrow, 23 Mar 1858 • Bratton Flemming, Devon, England.

Easy stuff this, ain't it.

Helen Maud, would be about the right age, relatively to Walter M. Bedford(1852).......but might be Margaret.!!

I can't see the birth for Sydney in NZ index.

There are Bedford births in NZ with father = Walter Scott and mother = Ellen but they don't fit.

Trying to find births with mother = Emily, Helen etc to find matching father and nothing is fitting. Seems no children born or more that one family so can't tell.

Can't find a marriage in NZ for Emily Adeline or Helen Maud Beatrice.

Looks to be marriages to fit for Margaret and Eliza.

The problem is, from 1873, to 1901,, Walter Bedfords whereabouts are a complete mystery, with exceptions of his sons birth, and the marriage to Elizabeth Barrow.

Spent 7 months at sea, on the HMS Cossack, paid off.

Something to ponder, Steve.. This fits with Val's find in post #3, So Sydney Thomas may possibly be Walter's stepson.

Holy crap.......that's a can of worms I never expected. This will just about decimate this side of the family tree.

Thomas Daxter....divorce, or abandonment, or prison/criminal, or was Elizabeth Barrow/Daxter a bigamist.

Yikes, and more yikes.

This is the maternal side of my daughters.
