"Wanted Names" System

Hi you good folk,

The \"Wanted Names\" system has finally been launched. It has not been fully completed (need to add a full search facility and a listing by Country and County!).

If anyone has got any comments - good or bad (we have big shoulders here! ) let us know please.

Also if you would like to see anything particular or want to change something - again let us know please.

Just to let you know i have had no hits or replys from my surname.
Or could i be doing somthing wrong? my name is Tony Head born in Wolverhampton West Midlands (or Staffordshire as it was called back a few years ago) in 1954, i am trying to find out about my farthers history as both of my parents have passed away.

Hi tonyh,

The service is not yet fully up and running yet! The only \"bit\" to finish is the search - yet you can search by clicking the first letter you are looking for - i.e: W for Wilson.

You will not find information on yourself! It is for people to add their \"Wanted Name\", a name they are trying to find more information on!

We have the following HEAD names currently in the database:

Head England Hampshire Solomon Head (Troke)and descendants please. He was my great great grandad.

Head England Staffordshire 1920 to 2000 born in wolverhampoton

If you are searching for someone - add their details! (I may well believe the last HEAD was your entry!). Hopefully someone will visit in the near future and contact you directly!

My \"Wanted Names\" have been on since the beginning and have had no replies - until a few weeks ago and then I had 2 distant relatives contact me! (similar to buses!:laugh

Hi,

I would also like to add that you must ensure that when you enter your email address, that you double check it is correct!
If someone does have a link, and tries to contact you and the email address is wrong - well it will go no where!!

Check and check again your email is correct!! :huh:

"Wanted Names" Update​

Together with the re - launched site, the "Wanted Names" system has been overhauled. You will find that it meets all our requirements:

• Database Driven.  Â
• Full Search - by Country, County or by name.
• Search fully in all the "Wanted Names" details.
• No EMail addresses can be seen - by anyone or "bots" (No Spam!)Â Â
• Users have to confirm their own advert by clicking on a link sent to them by EMail.
  There should eventually be no dead EMails.  Â

I am a first time NEWBIE and have a little trouble entering a wanted name from here in Australia. I keep getting booted out and back to the Google home page.
All advice appreciated. I have a special task of finding the descendants of an English Chap who passed away in 1973. :'(

Here I am again today trying to add a wanted name without success, are other Australian people finding the same problem or am I perhaps doing something wrong?
The system keeps booting me out in the Google UK home page.

Hi, I'm in Australia and have hed no trouble adding wated names. the only thing wrong with me is contacting someone wanting to know about my g-g-grandparents. I have been in touch about three times, but no reply.the request was made in 2005, has it expired?

Are they contacting you thro the Wanted Names System?

The syatem works by someone clicking a Wanted Name then typing a message that will be sent to them and to the original advertiser of the wanted name.

The original wanted name advertiser may well have changed their email address.

Is it bouncing back to you?

Brit. No, the message hasn't bounced back to me, nothing happens. if they changed e-mail address, they would have seen my postings in the wanted names. they are both the same name. Chris.

Hi Christine,

Brit is nearly correct. When you add a Wanted Name, the system does not advertise the advert until that person recieves an email from our system and responds to it by clicking the link. It will then confirm the email and then advertise it! This usually stops the bots, robots and spammers flooding the system - they try but then realise nothing is happening! I have thousands of them. I have also got thousands where users have incorrectly spelt their email address, and as it goes nowhere and just bounces back - the system blocks the advert!

It may be that the email account may have lapsed and the company has kept it open. Or that it is a correct email address - but has gone into their spam folder, as they have not added it to their "whitelist" or accepted it as valid mail - People who run virus scanners of various sorts must add @familyhistory.uk.com to their list.

I had a very criptic email letting me know that someone was trying to answer and wanting information on the name I posted on the "wanted" name board.
But I am unable to find out more. The name of the person that sent me the email is a Micheal Cadruvi. I've looked for his name on the members list but its not there. Is this a ring-in. I clicked onto his email address and up came a dating service. Which I have since blocked.

Hi. I don't know what is happening, but I can't get into the wanted names. When I click onto wanted names or England, nothing happens. Is there something wrong with the site, or is it me. Christine.

How do I get into the Wanted Names system?

When I click on the link on the home page, it 'thinks' for a moment then displays the same blank page.

Am I doing something wrong or is it a blip? I've only just joined the site, and am not really sure what to expect.

Couple of questions...

How often do you upload the wanted names?

Several 'wanted names' I have replied to believe that they musn't reply direct to me, although I think it's part of your message not to reply to you! Also they think I have someone who wants information from them... again part of your message...... Can you amend something?
