An interesting finish to my St Micheals Hoole war memorial research.
As I had hit a brick wall with the last four names and I am a poppy seller for the Royal British Legion, I had a poster on my poppy stand with the last four wanted names and newspaper reports with photographs of local soldiers who died in WW1, free to decendents. I had collected the newspaper reports from many hours spent in Preston Library.
This had a good response and led me to cross paths with "Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society". They are the people who put together the "Lancashire B.M.D" site, their aim is to put together a "Lancashire War Memorial site".
I passed my information I had collected, and glad to say I did add a bit to the project and hope to help out next year.
Many thanks to Gibbo and Daveham9 who gave help and may be interested in the connection with Hoole St Michaels Church and Australia.
Jeremiah Horrox observed the Transit of venus from Hoole when he was a curate at St Michaels in 1639 and predicted the next transit, which led to an expedition to Tahiti to observe the next one, a guy called captain Cooke.
I think they know the rest.
