Hello Barbara,

Thank you very much.

I think we are in luck. Another Wylie sister.

Qld. marriage 3 Jun 1882/C0284 Watson William - Wylie Janet Lade

The Brisbane Courier (Qld. : 1864 - 1933) - Monday 19 June 1882 p.1
MARRIAGE
WATSON - WYLIE.-On the 3rd June, at Cooktown, Queensland, by the Rev. Mr. Hoskins, William, third son of Mr. John Watson, of Largs, Ayrshire, Scotland, to Janet Lade, second daughter of Mr. James Wylie, of Brisbane, and formerly of Largs, Ayrshire, Scotland.

William is the third son in the 1861 census.

possible
Death 28 Nov 1893/C0648 Watson William - John Watson - Barbara Hendry

That's the only death I can find in Qld. for a son of John & Barbara. No sign of a death for Barbara in Qld. and only 129 hits searching for John's death.

I don't have an age at death for William yet to confirm it's the right one. Nor found his arrival.

Regards,

Dave

It appears I am a relative of a John Watson from Largs - I have a copy of his will! I have just started researching our family history as I have a lot of birth/marriage other papers to go through after a recent death in our family. My late father was David Watson Falconer.
Can I help you?

A few outstanding queries:

Deaths for John & Barbara.

I don't have an age at death for William yet to confirm it's the right one. Nor found his arrival.
I'd like a look up please for William (aged 8 in 1861) in 1871.
If he can't be found in 1871 then search for his arrival is 1861 - 1882.

I'd better check that 1861 says William was born Largs. May be in Lanark in 1871. FS is no help for 1871 as it just says Ayrshire for pob.

Thanks Geoff.

So all children in 1861 born Largs?

Occupatiion is probably 'Clerk Ship Brokers' for William.

I presume he left before 1881 census. Seems he was the only one to go to Qld.

Thanks Geoff.

William is on the Assisted list. No other info. No other Watsons is seems on board.

Next query. Deaths of John & Barbara I presume 1861 - 1871.

Impossible looking in Qld. for a death for a John Watson. :D

Total souls landed = 235 1/2

Thanks Geoff.

It's either Henry or Hendry.

Don't know where William died or where he is buried. The 'C' means country not Brisbane but even some Brisbane suburbs are 'C' reg.

Don't know where and when Janet was born, 1863 - 1866 ??

1861
Registration Number: 602
Registration District: Largs
ED: 4
Roll: CSSCT1861_88
Household schedule number: 11
Address: Lade Street, Largs
James Wylie Head 36 Tinsmith
Mary N Wylie Wife 31 Tinsmiths Wife Largs, Ayrshire
Mary Wylie 8
James M Wylie 3
John Wylie 3 MO
Mary S Malcolm 67

Family arrived in Australia 1861 - 6 Nov 1867

The Brisbane Courier (Qld. : 1864 - 1933) - Thursday 7 November 1867 p.2
BIRTH
WYLIE.-On the 6th November, at George-street, Brisbane, Mrs. James Wylie, of a daughter.

I've just realised something that was missed previously:

Page 12
1863 Deaths in the Parish of Largs in the County of Ayr
No. 36 - Mary Malcolm Widow of James Malcolm Wan.. ? Largs - 1863 June Twenty first 4H. 30m. P.M. Lade's land Lade Street Largs - F - 69 years - William Shearer Dikebuilder (deceased) Margaret Shearer M.S. Speirs (deceased) - Chronic bronchitis of several years As Cert by J/I. ? Campbell M.D. - James Wylie Son in Law - 1863 June 27/29th ? At Largs James Caskie Registrar

So they left after Mary's death. So we have two definite dates, a death in Scotland and a birth in Brisbane.

Thanks Geoff.

Well ok, where is she in 1861 then?

Not with the other grandparents because they both died before 1861. Well, neither found in 1861.

Mary 8 and James 3 and the gap is Janet.
