1901 the three sons John, James and Robert are boarders with John Dallas and family in West Derby. Can't find the parents so far.

Looking for the marriages of the two daughters I have just discovered that Margaret married John Dallos so the three brothers are actually living with their sister Margaret and brother in law John. The other daughter Christina married a William Jones. I have not been able to find the parents in either 1901 or 1911 and, not knowing where they may have been living it is very difficult to pin down one death amongst many.

Margaret's marriage cert does not state that James is deceased. Christina's marriage is on Anc which I cannot access as I don't subscribe so I don't know James' status in 1896.

That probate cannot be your James Watson. Your James is on the 1891 Census which was taken in April 1891, a month after James Watson died at sea!
