Hi Everyone,
In the Various census info I"ve been looking at, many birth places keep coming up as West Derby Lancs. Anyone any idea which towns villages etc this refers to?
I keep coming across Rainford,Knowsley Could these places have been classed as West Derby at one time?
Thanks, any info really appreciated

hello little Mo,
Rainford Knutsford and West Derby were all, in bygone times, considered to be in lancashire. Now days, with boundry changes, Knutsford is in Cheshire, while Rainford ( near St helens) and West Derby ( now a Liverpool suberb) are both classed as Merseyside. Having said that, there could be more than one of each place name I spos, so Im not sure if this has been any help at all lol
best wishes
Pat

Hi Everyone,
Took your advice & went onto the Genukie Site & found that Lancashire used the termOne Hundred to define an ancient area of administration (Something to do with Knights apparently)It was also used for taxation purposes & used for division well into the 19th Century.
Wesr Derby was all of West Lancashire to the Mersee River. Nowadays West Derby isNorris Green Everton etc.

Hope maybe this helps someone else, it"s helped me.
Best Wishes Moxxx

Hi

Liverpool was once considered part of Lancashire. But it is now in Merseyside. Actually the borough of Liverpool is just a small area of Merseyside. West Derby is towards the East of Liverpool. Merseyside also consists of Wirral, Bootle, Birkenhead, Crosby, Knotty Ash, Speke and Litherland.
