Just what can you believe on a certificate! o_O

On John Rowson's marriage certificate for 1885 he has his father Thomas Rowson down as Musician, on all the census I have found his father was a lamplighter.

So I was beginning to think I had the wrong family(as you would) - so today I set about searching for other candidates. After some digging I was unable to find any other candidates BUT looking at the 1881 census Johns brother Thomas Rowson was there as a 'teacher of music' and as the brothers age is against him being Johns father I am forced to assume it was just wishful thinking on Johns part! :(

Some probably glamourised their occupation to look good. My great gran said her ftaher was a carpenter on her marriage cert yet he was a timber yard labourer in censuses and birth, death certs.
