Whats in a name?

Been having some problems with the name Soloman versus Solomon.
On most census it seems to be listed as Soloman but on marriages it is listed as Solomon.
Doing a search on the web Solomon seems to come out top!
SO far not found a sure way of always getting the right results!

On the BMD lists for the births of my brother and myself, my mother's maiden name is given as 'Lock' for the oldest and 'Locke' for myself - this was in the 40's. No wonder 'spelling' was listed as a subject in my schooldays!
