I am so new, but don't know where to begin. I am particularly interested in my grandmother whose name was Edith Emily Sharood. She died when my father was about three, around 1916 or so. I know nothing more about her at all, and don't even know the origins of the name "Sharood". She was married to James Beresford. Can anyone help me? Many , many thanks,
Margo:

Hi Margo

Was your grandmother born in England at all as Sharood sounds Asian. Beresford is an English name.

If she was born in the UK then her birth will be in the civil registers of births, marriages and deaths.

Hi Margo,

This looks like Ediths death as the district also matches a Edith E Sharood on the census.

Death

Edith E Beresford
Est year of birth 1885

Year 1917

District Bromley
County Kent

Julie, thank you so much! I believe this may well be right. But, how do I find out about her parents, or siblings? My family also thinks that Sharood is an Asian sounding name, but would love to know more. Beresford is an old English name, I know, and there is also much research I need to do on that side of the family as well. Are there any other Beresford's out there? I would love to hear from you, as I understand that all Beresford's are related.
Thank you for all your kind greetings and welcoming words!
Margo
