Hello,

I want to purchase some Huddersfield Death Certificates, 1853 and 1871 and I was wondering if i should get them from GRO or the local Register Office. So far I can't find it on the Kirklees Council site.

Also, someone advised me last year to get them from local offices if possible rather than the GRO because mistakes sometimes take place in the transfer and therefore the local ones are likely to be more accurate.

I'd appreciate thoughts on this.

Regards,

Dave

Hello dave,

Thanks. Oh, perhaps I'd better decide on more than two certificates to order this month then :)

Hello,

I can't find the birth of my great grandfather but I can find the birth of two siblings.

1861
Civil parish Liverpool
RD Liverpool
Sub RD St.Martin
94 New Hedley? Street
Thomas Blackley head age 30 occ Iron moulder born Ireland
Janet wife age 30 born Scotland
John son age 8 born Scotland
Thomas son age 6 born Liverpool
William son age 4 born Liverpool
Isabella dau age 2 born Liverpool
Archibald son age 11wks born Liverpool
Births Sep 1859
BLACKLEY Isabella Liverpool 8b 50

Births Mar 1861
BLACKLEY Archibald Liverpool 8b 29

I've never purchased an English birth certificate before so I'm wondering on average what a certificate from around 1860 would have on it re the parents. ???

I can't find Thomas or William's birth.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,
The info on the cert can vary. But generally it will give:-

1. Fathers name.
2. Mothers name and maiden name.
3. Address where born.
4. Date when born.
5. Date when registered.
6. *** of child.
7. Name of child.
8. Occupation of father.
9. Signature of registrar.
10. Name change after registration. (If any).

Sometimes the father isn't named, and also the address can be vague. But as said, it usually contains what is listed but no guarantees.

Liverpool births could also come under WEST DERBY. Depending on the area of Liverpool, they were living at the time.

Hello Steve,

Thanks. I've looked under BLACKLEY and variations and BLAIKLEY and variations and BLAKELY and variations and BRAKELY and variations.

Parents married in 1852 and the eldest John was born about 1853 so I don't have the family in 1851 census.

You are correct. They moved and were here in 1871:

1871
Civil parish Kirkdale
RD West Derby
Sub RD Toxteth Park
67, Westminster Road
Thomas Blackley lodger wid age 38 occ Iron moulder born Scotland ? [Ireland]
Thomas Blackley lodger age 16 occ railway clerk born Liverpool
William Blackley age 15 occ shop errand boy born Liverpool
Archibald Blackley age 12 born Liverpool

Possible:

Births Mar 1856
BRAKELEY William Liverpool 8b 7

Births Mar 1854
Blekley Thomas W Derby 8b 357

I guess that is much more likely than Blackburn or Chorlton.

Births Mar 1854
Blackley Thomas Blackburn 8e 269

Regards,

Dave

Hello,

Airfares are low but I think a visit to UK will be a few years off. :) I've ordered 4 certificates by post so I expect to get them in about 2 weeks.

Regards,

Dave
