I knew my grandmothers surname as Hatton, she lived and died in suffolk. When she was dying in hospital i (born 1957) was, I guess, between about 10-12 years old. The name on her wrist band was Bowes Lyons (not Hatton). I asked my Father who was ther why and he told me to shut up and not to draw attention.
Is it possible to trace my family tree with such little information? Astranged from my family. I dont know when or where my parents died or even if my siblings (two older brothers) are still alive? Is it possible to search with such little information?

Hi Jean
can you give the name birth date and place of your parents if they have died. If the info is sensitive, make a new post in the private/sensitive forum. Do you know when your grandmother was born or your grandfathers details

hi,,as Dave says,,,best to start with your parents and work backwards,,,,unless you know your grandparents names and when and where they were born.
Bowes Lyons...blimey...thats a very regal surname,,,not a royal scandal i hope :) but seriously,,,post as much info as you can,,and we will try and help.:D

Hi Dave, You are amazing!!! I never thought it was possible to find out so much. Thank you so much!
I am more than happy for your findings to be on a public thread. I am still finding my way around the site so I hope you see this.

The Grandmother in question lived at 27 North Walsham Road Norwich. My father had two siblings Lance, who committed suicide and Pauline who looked after my Grandmother. I know Pauline married late in life (around 1970 I think) to a William Lamb.
I have never heard the name Palmer mentioned But you definately found my Father and Stubbs was my Mother. I believe she had a daughter first , who was adopted; then Lesley, John died, (But I thought his name was Richard- Or was that another one?) Another brother who was alive a few years ago was called Roy and I also had a younger sister who died shortly after birth... You have definately got the right family! My Mother was married to a Raw and the dates were always glossed over - not unusual I guess as my adopted sister was, I understand, born to my father when my mother was still married to Raw.
This is absolutely facinating!!
Where did the name Hatton come from? was that on my fathers birth certificate? or was it via a census you found him? Its like rediscovering yourself! I never thought that when I posted on here somone would go to all the trouble you have. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Sorry about the typos. Just too excited!!!:

Hi Jean

I found these
Roy C Hatton j/m 1948 Ealing mother Stubbs
Lancelot M Hatton o/d 1925 Depwade, Norfolk mother Palmer
Pauline F Hatton j/m 1927 Loddon Norfolk mother Palmer

Unfortunately only even numbers are listed on the 1911 census so I am still searching for your grandmother. Do you know her name and how old she was when she died The records show her maiden name as Palmer, have you any ideas about Bowes Lyons was this an hyphenated surname

http://www.192.com/people/search/ If you put Pauline F Lamb, Norwich into the search boxes, you will get a result. You would have to buy credits, but this will give you at least her address in 2002, possibly a telephone no and other persons at that address. You are correct in that she married William Lamb j/s 1970 at Norwich. You can try putting Roy C Hatton, London as well. You get some results, but I can't say any are your Roy.

Could your grandmothers name be Grace? and your grandfathers Archibald
