I was watching the above program tonight when I thought I know all this.
The Rev John Forbes had a daughter Janetta known as Jessie who married Walter Spence Jefferiss, son of Robert Reubin Jefferiss.

I got so excited !! Fame at last !

I do have a lot on the Rev. John Forbes and I have also been trying to get in touch with Graham Biggs who was the chap in the kilt at the end as he is a cousin of my husband. His grandmother was the sister of Frederick Burroughs Jefferiss. He was named that after Walter's boss on the Isle of Skye ,Gen Frederick Burroughs. What a creep !

So Steve, I think I am now one up on you !!

Thank you for your kind thoughts and pictures.
If you view the programme, the chap towards the end is a cousin, who I rang up this morning having rung BT ( the website wasn't working ) . They gave me a Wallsend no. for Scotland !

He was a charming chap and we are going to keep in touch via email. He quite enjoyed doing the programme. He decided to wear his kilt so that no one could put him down !

Both of us knew that Rev, John Forbes had fathered a child whilst married " begotten in fornication on the body " of said woman. Then he becomes this Reverend all high and mighty on Skye. Graham thought he was the only person who knew, and felt like saying it on television, as they carefully glossed over it somewhat on the tele, but thought better of it.

Anyway, I enjoyed it

OK Maddie, I have been totally 'upped'.

It was amazing that those records at the Demesne survived 'in the garage'.

My only saving grace, is that my wife has Scottish parents, and her maternal Grandfather lived in Fyvie, Aberdeen shire, on his croft until he died at the age of 96 at home.

Maybe the illegitimate daughter was why he was sent to a small parish on Skye. Where exactly did John Forbes originate from? There seems to be a lot of Forbes clergy including a Church of the Scotland Moderator. A lot of clergy came from wealthy families. Was this true of John Forbes?

Aha Maddie,
Found this for Reverend John Forbes b.1568 at Alford, Aberdeenshire. Which is about 20 miles from Fyvie.

I should have answered you first.

Rev John Forbes had an illigitmate son called Alexander while he was married but living as schoolmaster in Fort Augustus. Later with his wife he then had at least 2 daughters one of which was Jannetta or aka Jessie who married my grandson's 3x great grandfather, Walter who was the son of the disappearing Robert Reubin Jefferiss
