Hi. I have recently returned to researching my Wilkins family history and have just come across some information about my Gt grandfather Richard John Wilkins b 1877 Burnley Lancashire. It appears that there is a desertion record for this man, publicised on 14/3/1899. It appears he deserted from the Royal Artillery in Newcastle on 4th March 1899. Does anyone know how I may find any information on this and was he subsequently court martialled?, was he imprisoned?. Would be grateful for any help with this

His Service Record is available to view on FindMyPast. His Service Number is 32705 should you want to look for him on other sites.

Apparently he desrted twice and was eventually discharged with the comment 'Incorrigible and worthless'
