Hi Jennifer,

Just out of curiosity I looked for Rachel and William in other Censuses and here are the results in case you don't have them.

1841
Long Town Village
William 50 Timber Merchant#
Rachel 40
William 12
Elinor 7
Elizabeth 5
Not known 1 mth (presumably the Ann who is on the 1851 Census)

All the children are down as born in county but Rachel and William are not born in county.

1861

Black Lion Inn, Longtown
William 80 Victualler Llandorya, Monmouth
Rachel 60 Chemich, Monmouth

No sign of them in 1871

Hope this is of interest,

Emeltee

Hi Jennifer,

I've found a bit more info for you, although you may have it already. What had been transcribed as William's birthplace in 1861 Census, Llandroya, is in fact Llandrogo. Both the family search site and FreeREG have the baptism of a William Vaughan in Llandrogo in 1783. The parents are John and Elizabeth Vaughan. William also had a sister Eleanor baptised 1785.

Unfortunately I can't find William's marriage to Rachel nor can I find anything more re his parents. I have looked to see where Chemich, Rachel's birthplace from the Census is but cannot find it, or anything like it anywhere in Monmouthshire so I suspect that it is another mistranscription. I have looked at the image of the original page and it looks like Chemesh to me.

Good luck,

Emeltee

Hi,

I've found another child born to William and Rachel, other than those mentioned in the Censuses. familysearch has a Mary Ann baptised in 1822 in Clodock and Longtown, parents William and Rachel Vaughan.

Hi emeltee

Thank you so much for finding MaryAnn. I am sure she is Ann's sister although she was born 20 years before Ann. I have seen a record for her before and wondered whether she and Ann were sisters. I am convinced that they were and in fact, will now enter her into my tree as a sibling.

Many thanks to all of you at familyhistory UK for mentioning your findings in FreeReg. I have looked at the records you found and am delighted at how detailed they are . This opens new doors for me.

I received an e-mail from someone who is convinced she is descended from Ann Vaughan. Her g father is Samuel (William?) Griffiths, who married an Edmonds. One of Ann and Isaac's children was Samuel Isaac. This has caused some confusion.

Once again, many thanks for your interest and all you are doing for my family tree.

Kind regards
Jenny
