Hello,

I'd like a census look up for 1851 please.

I'm searching for a William Baker GIRLING born about 1842 probably in Devon.

He married in Queensland in 1864 but I can't find his death anywhere in Australia yet so I don't have his parents:

1864/B0945 Girling William Baker Deagon Catherine Ann

I'm not sure when he arrived in Australia. This arrival in 1858 in Victoria is the only one I've found so far:

GIRLING MARY A 16 - APR 1858 EMPRESS EUGENIE 13 173
GIRLING WILLIAM 16 - APR 1858 EMPRESS EUGENIE 13 171

Thanks.

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Going by age at death in NZ it points to the William in the shipping record to Victoria as being a different person. So we are looking for a William Baker GIRLING born about 1833 not 1842.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave

Yes I was hoping adjusting his birth year would find him. Unfortunately no William GIRLING born in Devon or living in Devon around 1833.
12 William Girling's between 1831-1835 most born in Suffolk & Norfolk.
Let the process of elimination begin:D

Hello crankypants,

William & Mary DEAGON also came to Queensland and are buried in Bald Hills Cemetery.

They were still in England in 1861 so please see if you can find the family in the census.

Thanks.

Hello crankypants,

I've found three people researching the DEAGON family and they don't agree where and when William and Mary were born :D They all have nothing for William GIRLING apart from his first marriage.

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much.

I've looked in FreeREG 1833 +/- 5 years for a marriage of a male GIRLING to a BAKER in Norfolk, Suffold & Devon without luck. Also for a baptism of a William GIRLING without luck so far.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave

Cyclopedia of New Zealand v5 Nelson

Mr. W. B. GIRLING was born at Brentwood, Essex, England, and was educated at a private school in London, where he was apprenticed to Howitt & Co. He came to New Zealand in 1872, landed at Nelson, and engaged with Wymond and Co., drapers and clothiers, but did not stay long with the firm before he decided to establish the business of W. B. Girling and Co., in which he met with a large measure of success. Mr. Girling died on the 20th March, 1898 ; aged sixty-five years.

1861 U.K census
Civil Parish: Islington
