Hello Beckie,

Welcome to this forum and thank you for the information. It's been some time since I've looked at this line in my tree so I'll need a bit of time to refresh things.

If you have any queries just ask and I might have found something you don't have. I'm sure when I've had another look at this branch of my tree that I'll have some queries for you.

Regards,

Dave

I was distracted by some old handwriting. Amazingly, I woke at 7 am and not 3 am today. :D

Hello Beckie,

I've had so many different branches of my tree in my head over the past few weeks as I recover from the op that it will take me some time to refresh my memory.

If you have any specific queries just ask. If you would like what I have in GEDCOM form then I can email it to you. Just a reminder that email address should be sent by PM (personal message) and not placed here on the board.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Beckie,

Elizabeth BECK b. 1 May 1816 c. 26 May 1816 Finsbury Saint Luke Old Street, Middlesex

Died 1901:

Death # 4527/1901 MORWICK ELIZABETH - - BALMAIN SOUTH

Rokwood Cemetery
MORWICK Elizabeth
Date of death 12th May 1901 age 85
Inscription: Wife of Hugh Morwick
Denomination: Old Church of England
Section: AAA Row: 10 Grave: 343,344

Of the three children I can only find the birth in NSW for Clara.

Death # 1048/1862 MORWICK ROBERT H HUGH ELIZABETH SYDNEY
186210568 122/1862 MORWICK ROBERT H AGE 3 YEARS DIED DARLINGHURST

So that gives a rough dob for Robert.

So far I have found nothing to give me the age at death for James:

Death # 157/1903 MORWICK JAMES HUGH ELIZABETH SYDNEY

The marriage is a strange one as I have two records:

Morwick Hugh 1823 OKI,SCT Hugh Morwick/Elizabeth Scarthe Elizabeth Beck NSW AUS 9 Dec 1854 712
Beck Elizabeth 1 May 1816 London,MDX Robert Beck/Elizabeth Davies Hugh Morwick NSW AUS 9 Dec 1854 - 712

V184565 88/1845 MORWICK HUGH BECK ELIZABETH GB= Independent (Congregational) Pitt Street, Sydney

I have not yet checked the film at SLNSW for that 1845 entry.

I noticed on the shipping record for brother William it has under Religion: Independent .

Re Robert:

Index to Unassisted Inward Passenger Lists to Victoria 1852-1923
Arrived 9 July 1853 Port Phillip per 'Sir Henry Hardinge'

BECK ELIZABETH 34 JUL 1853 SIR HENRY HARDINGE B 042 001
BECK ROBT 65 JUL 1853 SIR HENRY HARDINGE B 042 001
BECK ROBT 32 JUL 1853 SIR HENRY HARDINGE B 042 001

IGI extracted entry has Robert c. 17 Apr 1876 Tiverton, Devon

IGI extracted entry has Robert c. 14 Feb 1819 Camberwell St Giles, Surrey

BECK William 29 'John Bright' 1849 Sydney and/or Newcastle and family Reel 2135, [4/4786] Page 363; Reel 2459, [4/4910]
BECK Charlotte 21 'John Bright' 1849 Sydney and/or Newcastle and family
BECK Louisa inft 'John Bright' 1849 Sydney and/or Newcastle and family

IGI extracted entry William c. 18 Jun 1820 Camberwell St Giles, Surrey

Yes, it would appear that Louisa was baptised in Sydney, but again I've not yet viewed the film to find the parish.

Reg# V1848508 58/1848 BECK LOUISA WILLIAM CHARLOTTE E

I have no death recorded for Louisa or Emma:

Birth # 2328/1868 BECK EMMA F WILLIAM CHARLOTTE E SYDNEY

I can't find an entry for Charlotte in IGI or Sussex OPC, so all I have is 'about 1828' Poynings, Sussex.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,
Can you tell me how to send you a PM please? Do I put you on my Buddy List, or wot.
I am a real technophobe so please point me in the right direction. I have read the FAQ's and the PM info, but still no joy! I can't find a PM box in your posts that I am supposed to click on.
In despair,
Beckie.

Hello Beckie,

The system requires new members to have made three posts, which you have done but for some reason I don't get the option to send you a PM.

If you left-click on my nickname DaveHam9 at the left of any of my posts one of the options should be 'Send a private message to...'

If that option is not there then something is not working and it may require the help of one of the mods.

Regards,

Dave

PS There is no mod here at the moment.

Dave,

I am a bit slow, I have only just worked out what you meant. Embarrassing to admit that I didn't know what a "nick" was. redf) So much to learn, so little time.

I have re-read all the posts about William Beck, and there is a question I would like to ask.
Does anyone know when William's mother Elizabeth (nee Davies) died. It would have to be after 1820 and before March 1853, when her husband Robert, and children Elizabeth and Robert junior sailed for Australia. Can anyone find out if she is recorded on the 1841 or other UK census please?

I also noticed that although Robert & Elizabeth were married in 1809, the first birth was not recorded until 1814, which seems rather a long time. Perhaps there were other births/deaths prior to 1814.

Beckie.

Hello Beckie,

You will pick it up. Just 'Google' and you will find hundreds of sites that answer all sorts of questions. NLA, NAA, BDM, AWM,... you will get to know them if you already don't. :)

Robert c. 17 Apr 1786 Tiverton, Devon, England
Parents George BECK & Suzanna MILLS

1841
HO107/1054/2 folio 28B
Sun Court, Denmark Hill, Lambeth, Surrey
Robert Beck 50 Boot maker Not born in Surrey
Elizabeth Beck 50 Not born in Surrey
William Beck 20 Born in Surrey
Robert Berks 17, Male, Apprentice, No = not born in Surrey
1851 census
HO107/1575 folio 351b
1 Bekenham Place, Lambeth, Surrey
Robert Beck head marr 62 Boot & shoe maker b Tiverton Devon
Elizabeth Beck wife 64 b Middlesex London
Elizabeth Beck dau unmarr 32 b Middlesex London
This is a possible death for Elizabeth:

Deaths Sep 1851
BECK Elizabeth Lambeth 4 164

Emma and Henry were baptised on the same day:

c. 21 Aug 1814 Finsbury Saint Luke Old Street, Middlesex

but I doubt they were twins. As a result, all I have for Emma is born '1810-1814' in my tree. I have no information about any other children born before Henry & Emma. I have no date of death recorded for either of them.

I've been working on my tree exactly 3 years now and still so much to do. I revisit different branches every few months to fill in more gaps and in a few days I'll move on from THORNLEY back to this one.

Regards,

Dave

Thanks Dave.
That 1851 death for Elizabeth sounds good. It fits in with Robert and 2 children emigrating a couple of years later, in 1853.
Cheers,
Beckie.

Hello Beckie,

I've entered that as a probable but it's one of lots I've not paid to get a copy of yet. So many others ahead of that one in my list.

I have a few more queries to finish off THORNLEY and then you'll have more of my time.

Index to Unassisted Inward Passenger Lists to Victoria 1852-1923
Arrived 9 July 1853 Port Phillip per 'Sir Henry Hardinge'
21 Mar 1853 Plymouth 239 passengers via Cape of Good Hope 28 May 1853
BECK ELIZABETH 34 JUL 1853 SIR HENRY HARDINGE B 042 001
BECK ROBT 65 JUL 1853 SIR HENRY HARDINGE B 042 001
BECK ROBT 32 JUL 1853 SIR HENRY HARDINGE B 042 001

Have you viewed that record for any other information it may contain? It's one of many I've not got around to yet.

Regards,

Dave

Thanks.

I can't find any sign in FreeREG or in the Sussex OPC records for a marriage between Thomas DYKE and Caroline PARIS. Perhaps is was not in Sussex ???

Only one baptism found so far:

LIST OF (1) BAPTISM IN ST NICHOLAS OF MYRA, BRIGHTON, ST NICHOLAS
St Nicholas of Myra 18 Jan 1835 Dyke Caroline Paris

LIST OF (2) BAPTISMS IN ST PETER, BRIGHTON
St Peter 07 Nov 1841 Dyke Esther Emily Heath
St Peter 17 Mar 1844 Dyke Robert Henry B.

EDIT: Curious IGI has more than the Sussex OPC:

1. Mary Ann Dyke -
Gender: Female Christening: 14 AUG 1836 St Nicholas, Brighton, Sussex, England
2. Thomas Arthur George Dyke -
Gender: Male Christening: 16 JUN 1839 St Nicholas, Brighton, Sussex, England
3. William Paris Dyke -
Gender: Male Christening: 15 APR 1832 St Nicholas, Brighton, Sussex, England
4. ESTHER EMILY HEATH DYKE -
Gender: Female Christening: 07 NOV 1841 St Peter, Brighton, Sussex, England
5. ROBERT HENRY B. DYKE -
Gender: Male Christening: 17 MAR 1844 St Peter, Brighton, Sussex, England
6. CAROLINE PARIS <DYKE> -
Gender: Female Christening: 18 JAN 1835 Saint Nicholas, Brighton, Sussex, England

Several are in the 1841 census but missing from IGI.

Hi Daveham,
Whoa, I can't keep up. I had a look at Ancestry.com at my local library today(it's free access) and found the departure (March 10 1853) shipping record for Robert, Elizabeth & Robert, extracted from Microfiche VPRS 947. The writing is tiny (I should have enlarged it) but it says:
Beck Robert 65 Shoemaker From England contracted to land at Sydney
Beck Robert 32 ?"Engine Driver" from England contracted to land at Sydney
Beck Elizabeth 34 Dressmaking from England contracted to land at Sydney
No other detail given.
Cheers,
Beckie.
PS From The Bega Valley Pioneer Register Pre-Federation:
Children of Robert Beck senior:
1816 Elizabeth
1818 Robert
1820 William
Cheers,
Beckie
