Hello crankypants,

Walter Scott GRIFFITHS b. 1864 ? but where ? I thought I'd find a bio or similar but nothing so far.

I can't see how CARRUTHERS and DRUCE are related to MORWICK or HOGG or BECK. I can see how CRANE is.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. Perhaps Emma Florence (nee BECK) (her first spouse was CHISSELL) may have gone to SA then returned to NSW in 1929 or 1930.

I'll give you some time to catch up with this topic which seems to have grown sideways by 6 marriages. :)

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much.

...survived by Mrs. Griffiths, two sons, three daughters and two stepsons.
Yes, Frank who died 1904 is the one, of the three sons, who made that into 'two stepsons' in 1929.

Re Walter Scott: One site says born 1864 but I still can't see where but I've been searching for Walter S not W Scott.

Re Dr. CARRUTHERS of Balmain: Lots of stuff in NLA but I still can't find his given name or his connection by marriage.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Crankypants,
Thank you for that SA death record for Walter S Griffiths. Emma Florence died 1945 at Marrickville, but I had not been able to find a death for Walter S. It helps fill in a gap in my tree.
Also, the report on Frank Chissell's drowning. In addition, SMH Tuesday 26th January page 8 under the heading Inquest:
Accidentally Drowned
"The Deputy City Coroner (Dr Todd) held a magisterial inquiry at Gordon yesterday relative to the death of Frank Chissell, 17, who drowned in the Lane Cove River on Saturday afternoon.
In evidence it was stated that the deceased swam across the river which is about 12 yards wide where the fatality occurred and was returning, when he got into difficulties. Another bather, William Beck, went to his assistance. Deceased seized Beck, who was compelled to release himself, and young Chissell sank in about 6 feet of water. The body was subsequently recovered by Constable Ritchie, of Pymble. A finding of accidentally drowned was recorded".

I guess that this 'William' Beck would be uncle William Hubert, as cousin William T Beck, would have been only 5 years old at the time.
Cheers,

Beckie.

Hi Dave,
Could this be the Dr Carruthers you are looking for?
NSW State Archives
List of Firms 1903
Dr Charles Ulic Carruthers Medical Practitioner Glenara Montagu St Balmain
1882 Charles H Carruthers m Alice L Evans Balmain
1937 Charles Ulio Carruthers d age 84 Balmain
NLA Trove:
SMH Monday 20 September 1937
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/17406045?searchTerm=dr carruthers
Obituary for Dr Charles Ulio Carruthers b c1853 Dublin

Could he have attended the funeral of Hugh Morwick as his physician, rather than as a relative?

Cheers,

Beckie.

Hello Beckie,

Thanks. Yes, I'd say that's the guy. You might be correct about the article meaning the last three names not being related:

...and other relatives; Dr. Carruthers, Walter Scott Griffiths, and J. Druce (E. and S. Bank, Balmain),
It has a ; after relatives so it perhaps implies those other relatives are unnamed (The Cranes are related via Hogg sister). Perhaps they were not aware that Walter Scott was related.

Dave

Hi Dave,
Regarding William Thomas Beck, son of William Hubert Beck:
NLA TROVE:
The Argus Melbourne Monday 19 June 1939
BULLET HITS WALL AND FALLS ON WOMAN
Sydney, Sunday
"Crashing through the window of a bedroom at the home of Mr William T Beck at Lane Cove at 1.40 am today, a bullet struck a wall over a doorway, and richochetted (sic) towards a bed where Mrs Linda Beck was lying. The bullet which was almost spent fell in her hair and bruised her head. Mr Beck was in another room at the time. He believes that had he entered the bedroom 10 seconds before he did the bullet would have struck him. Police searched the locality, but could not ascertain who fired the shot".
NSW BDMS:
1920 William T m Linda A Dew Bundock Sydney
1979 Linda Agnes d Pts Henry & Sarah
RYERSON INDEX:
1979 Linda Agnes late of Linley Point
1983 William Thomas late of Linley Point
Interesting!
Cheers,
Beckie

Hello Beckie,

I would say yes. Bennelong would be Lane Cove.

Linda Agnes De Weltz Beck 1949 New South Wales Bennelong

Re John Thomas SNOW that may not be his death although I can't find another because of a notice in newspaper in 1920 "Mr. and Mrs. J. T. SNOW and Family return sincaro THAINK3 to their many friendu for kind eMr.eiHcns of sympathy owing their recent sad bereavement."

So I take it they are BOTH still alive in 1920.

EDIT: That article is 1910 so forget that last remark. :2fun:

I'd say Elizabeth died in 1918 and John in 1919

Dave

Hi Dave the Indefatiguable,

Just brilliant! I have been fumbling around trying to find what happened to Elizabeth & James Snow for yonks!
The only things I could come up with were 3 births in Dubbo, but with John Thomas as the father. Never thought of Queensland, but come to think of it, that is where her sister Henrietta Ruth Beck apparently married a Howitt.

Thanks and cheers,
Beckie.
Edit. Elizabeth (64) and Henrietta Ruth (52) were both alive in 1914, as per William Beck's death certificate

Hello Beckie,

I'm worried about this marriage:

2634/1878 BUNDOCK JAMES BECK MATILDA BOOROWA

There are other BECKs in NSW who are not descendants of Robert b. 1786 Devon. Descendants of the several convicts who arrived in NSW for example.

It's possible that the William Thomas who married Linda BUNDOCK is not our William T.

I can see siblings getting married but Matilda does not fit in our tree as far as I can see.

Birth
14216/1860 BECK MATILDA M JOHN SARAH YASS

No John in our tree.

BECK William Thomas Death notice 20SEP1983 Death late of Linley Point SMH 24SEP1983
Will have to view that film to check.

Regards,

Dave

Thanks. I think he went there in 1922.

Dave
