NRS5316/4_4798/Southern Ocean_27 Feb 1865/

The surviving passenger list has only Mary Knott aged 27 and son William aged 3.

Something is not right.

FMP Keyword "Southern Ocean"
Perry Benjamin, birth year 1846 Arrival year 1866
Queensland Customs House Shipping 1852-1885: Passengers And Crew

There is no record in the NSW Archives of the 'Southern Ocean' arriving in 1866.

The 'Wonga Wonga' is not listed on Ozships.

The Herald (Melbourne, Vic. : 1861 - 1954) Sat 11 Feb 1865
Page 2
The Southern Ocean, which arrived at the
Heads yesterday, has been put in quarantine.
Thirteen deaths occurred on the voyage, and
the telegrams from the Health Officer are to the
effect that the vessel was exceedingly dirty, and
that fever was still on board.

QUEENSCLIFF. FRIDAY.
The Southern Ocean, with passengers, is
placed in Quarantine, having had thirteen
deaths. Fourteen steerage passengers will be
landed at the quarantine station, and the
ship cleaned before being released.

The passengers per 'Southern Ocean' arrived in Sydney per 'Wonga Wonga' ??

The vessel must have been repaired and made another voyage from England to Australia in 1866 ??

The transcription for 1861 does say 20 for Martha. There is also a Martha Perry age 12 born Chilcompton general servant in 1861.

Birth registration for Martha Perry 1849 - Clutton - MMN Jefferies.

I think the 2 Martha’s In 1861 are the same. Martha age 20 was listed after Benjamin which usually are in age order, and not unusual to be listed twice in different addresse’s.

Not sure about the 1886 death. There is a John Perry age 71 - married - occ postman - in Midsomer Norton - RD Clutton
Majors Lane in 1881.

Not really having much luck in finding these 2 on the same census year.
