William Church Clowes was born in 1833 in Stalham, Norfolk, England. He was the oldest child and had ten siblings.
When he was 25, he married Charlotte Base in Jan 1858 in Norfolk, England.
He was father to (at least) ten children, all were christened at St Mary's Church, Attleborough (ref: Baptism Project Attleborough)

William Church, his wife and family travelled to Australia.
In 1888, W C Clowes was listed as a Chemist in the township of Goondiwindi (population 507) in Slaters Queensland Almanac 1888. On 15 September 1888, his daughter Ethel married Conrad Cobden Dornbusch (architect) on 15 September 1888 at Goondiwindi.
In 1896, he was nominated for the Legislative Assembly as a Labour candidate (Balonne).
In 1897 (aged 64), he was listed as a Pharmaceutical Chemist (Brisbane) qualified to practise in Queensland under "The Pharmacy Act of 1884". His eldest son William Cubitt (aged 43) was also listed as a Pharmaceutical Chemist (St. George, Qld) in 1897. His brother, Joseph Smith Clowes, was listed as Medical Practitioner in Albion Bisbane (M.R.C.S. Eng. 1877).
On 07 Feb 1900 his son Albert married Annabella Louise Beatty in Queensland.
William Church Clowes died, aged 71, on 01 Jun 1904 in Queensland, Australia.
