Hi

The below marriage is possibly the William Hoaten/Hooten that I am looking for.
Mar Qtr 1907, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire
William HOOTON and Elizabeth EVANS
Married: Shelton St Mark Stoke on Trent.

Any suggestions on who his parents were and where they were before and after the marriage ???

If this is the person I am looking for, they would have sailed from Southampton to South Africa on The German. His occupation in 1907 was a Warrant Officer in the BSAP/- R.S.M. (S.R.V?.)- English British Subject.

Thanks

Hi

I have been looking at this as a possible marriage, but have no proof. if it is the right William Hooton/Hoaten then following him in the census produces a possible connection with the Hoaten family in Penbroke

it may be significant that this William's father was a police officer !

1881 census William is 6 born middlesex with father Richard Hooton aged 32 a police constable with a wife Sarah. Richard is born Pembroke, Sarah in Tring Hertfordshire (RG11 P168 F94 P32 ) williams siblings are E aged 11, Frederick 4; and Ernest 3 all born in middlesex

1871 (RG10 p203 F29 P49 ) Richard is 22 police officer born Pembroke, Edward is aged 1 born middlesex his wife has changed and is now Hannah !

there is a marriage of Richard Hooton and Hannah Rees in 1867 at haverford west Pembroke (1867 haverford west 11a 1029)

in 1891 William is not with his father Richard who now lives at 49 high St hampstead . richard is now a lavatory attendant ( a come down after police service! )

back to 1861 census we find Richard Hooton now 12, has parents William 49 and Eizabeth 47 Richard born Pembroke has a sister Mary born Northampton not northumberland! there is a mis transcription (RG9 p4156 F105 P33 )

in 1851 the same family (H107 p2476 f559 P26) william is a dock labourer

Richard Hooton's birth is probably 1849 1q Pembroke 26 760

Hoaten's farm and cottages are in Pembroke.

I realise this is all very tenuous and dependent on the right starting point. It could be worth the cost of a couple of certificates to check the original marriage of William Hooton.

do let me know what you think

To continue this thread

in 1841 census for Sywell Northamptonshire

H0107/ 801 bk 6 f4 P2 all family born in county.

Mary 60
William 25
james 30
Elizabeth 25

Sywell is a small village just West of Wellingborough in Northamptonshire

Richard Hooton's second wife was Sarah either Sarah Harris or Sarah Elizabeth Pratley ( BMD 1874 1Q st pancras 1b 224 )

Richards first wife Hannah's death was probably in 1872 ( BMD 1872 3Q St Pancras 1b 13 )

so the tree now looks like

Unknown = mary (60 in 1841)
her son William(39 in 1851) = Elizabeth Addington (37 in 1851)
son Richard (1849)= 1 Hannah Rees and 2 = Sarah ( Harris or Pratley)

their son William Henry (abt 1875) who may have married 1 Kate Withers ( 4Q 1898 Hampstead)
