Death of Mrs. Matthews.
THE death took place on Tuesday of last week of Mrs. Matthews, of West Kempsey, an old and respected resident of the Macleay. The deceased lady, who was 70 years of age, was a native of Maitland and a sister to Mr. Thomas Hennessey. She was married twice. With her first husband (Capt. William Rogers) she came to the Macleay nearly 50 years ago and they settled at Commandant Hill. Afterwards the late Mr. Rogers started a store and was accidentally killed by being thrown from a van. Ten years ago the deceased lady married Mr. Matthews and lived in retirement at West Kempsey. By the first marriage she leaves a family of ten children, viz :- C. J. Rogers, of Yarrahappinni ; Mrs. T. Secomb, Dondingalong ; Mrs. Albert Sinfield, Zion City (U.S.A.) ; Mrs. W. Harvey, Central Kempsey ; Mrs. J. C. Wilson, Greenhill ; Mrs. Henry Bennett, Taree ; Mr. W. Rogers, Lismore ; Mrs. John Tandy, Glen Innes ; Mr. Hedley Rogers, Dawson City (America) ; and Mr. Stanley Rogers, Casino. The funeral took place at the West Kempsey Cemetery on Wednesday, and was largely attended by residents from all parts of the district."
