This is a problem:

name: William Cook
gender: Male
baptism/christening date: 06 Sep 1802
baptism/christening place: LUDLOW,SHROPSHIRE,ENGLAND
birth date:
birthplace:
death date:
name note:
race:
father's name: John Cook
father's birthplace:
father's age:
mother's name: Ann
mother's birthplace:
mother's age:
indexing project (batch) number: P00680-1

reference number:

If the age in later census is correct then it's the one born 1802 I'm chasing.

There are 5 born Ludlow 1800-1835.

I have William in 1861 and age 59 was queried. Assuming it's not way out then that's the one I'm after in 1851.

Thanks.

Hello Julie,

Thank you very much.

Occupation in 1861 and 1851 indicate it's the likely one. I have nothing such as name of a sibling or father's occupation to confirm the 1841 yet.

Death reg is not much help:

24 Jun 1880/C02072 Cook William - - ** born England aged about 45 years

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Looking at the 1851 census for William born abt 1803 with wife Elizabeth his occupation looks like Statutary employing 11 men.

1861 Williams occupation (looks like stationery) employing 32 men.

Yes, Julie, one transcription has 'stationary' so I wonder if he was a printer. ???

It's not this:

Stationary Engine Driver: Operated steam factory engine, used for all processes, usually linked by a system of shafts, pulleys and belts
Stationary Engineer: Maintained the factory steam engine and machinery

I'm still trying to work out which of the 5 born Ludlow is mine.

Oh. :)

Ah. So if 59 is correct in 1861 then 2nd marriage in 1859.

Lots of possible death for Elizabeth 1851-1861.

Age at death for William is a problem too.

The 1861 with daughter Blanche M is the right one for sure.

This William is a problem with so many born Ludlow. But no sign of one to fit age at death.

Do we go by age at death (45 in 1880) or age 59 in 1861 or age close to Eliza's or ... ???

We have one b. abt 1803 and one b. abt 1828, both with a very similar occupation to the definite one in 1861. If only the age in 1861 was clearer.
