I dont think the Gittoes were convicts Dave.

Sounds like their father was here as well.

Oh.

M. A. ALLEN means a remarriage for Mary Ann.

I can't see the marriage in NSW.

Did George die in England and Mary Ann remarry there and then come to Australia?

Is her maiden name actually BYERS ?

App' to marry..

Mary A Marshall
Age: 33
Birth Year: Abt 1799
Spouse: Saml Allan
Request Status: Granted
Date of Permission/Refusal: 17 Jul 1832
Thanks Geoff.

Now it's getting complicated.

ALLAN/ALLEN is rather common so easy to have 2x Mary A.

W know the name at the foot of the notice was 'M. A. ALLEN' and I doubt that was a solicitor.

I have not proved that Wiliam GITTOE's parents are George & Mary Ann BYERS.

No, nothing new with any branch with a convict.

Burial V18541262 41A/1854 ALLEN MARY A AGE 57

The same tree has death for George GITTOES at Camden, NSW in 1868. I can't find it 1867-1869.

Did George go to Australia?
According to a tree George and spouse Mary Ann and son William and daughter Mary Ann all ended up in Camden, NSW.

As usual something does not add up.

GITTOES
Mary Ann b. 1820 England
William b. 1822 England
Parents George & Mary Ann ??

Mary Ann marries Samuel ALLEN 1832 but George does not die until 1868 ???

We know from the notice that M. A. ALLEN is the mother of a William GITTOES. I'd say that implies that William's father is dead by 1844 and possibly died in England.

I found a fairly well-informed tree that says that Mary Ann Gittoes and William Gittoes were on the Lucy Davidson with convict mother, Mary Ann Marshall, no mention of father... There are no details about George (father)..
