Hi Rupert

Thanks for that, I've been searching the 1871 census for the family for such a long time with no luck that's brilliant.
I saw that 1911 census, but wasn't sure if it was him, but it looks like it must be. Not sure about the probate you found, I'm having trouble finding such a thing any tips??

Hi Geoff

You're right, not his mother as her maiden name was Greenwood, but it could be his wife's mother's maiden name, she could have been the one giving the information.

Hello Ladybird from another Ladybird. I cannot help you with your Woodruff search. But I used to live in Buckhurst Hill, & there was a Woodruff family living around the corner to us. Would it be any connection?

Hello Ladybird,

To be honest, I don't know. My g grandmother was Emma Eliza Woodruff who married James Alfred Hickey in 1870, so my branch finished there. I was just filling in some gaps about her brother William.
They originally came from Wiltshire, having a bit of trouble that end too, trying to esatblish a link to Stephen Bayles/Ballis Woodruff/Woodroffe, who also came from Wiltshire, but there is some missing information so can't prove anything firmly.
As many people moved out from London during the last century, there is always a possibility they are connected.
