now I'm confused.... who are we looking for :-\
I had to switch off:rolleyes:

Got lost too, I'm thinking most of the children in post 1 died though Alice BATEMAN I'm guessing is the one in 1881 as Alice NEEDS.

There is no sign of William BATEMAN, can't find any baptisms for the children.

Can't find a Thorn/Thorne marriage though Elizabeth born Chippenham living next door to her parents is a possible.

Marriages Jun Qtr 1853
Needs Henry Clifton 6a 215
Silman Jane Clifton 6a 215

GRO Reference: 1854 M Quarter in CHIPPENHAM Volume 05A Page 62

NEEDS, ALFRED - SELMAN
GRO Reference: 1872 J Quarter in KEYNSHAM Volume 05C Page 721

GRO is very slow for me today.

The birth reg for Tom aged 11 in 1881 ??

I have no access to GRO or FreeBMD or a dozen other web sites in UK. I'm guessing this server is not in UK.

This reminds me of my Lewton/Lear/Hodges puzzle in Bitton.

Looks like Alice is the only one who didn't die young. Also looks as though Elizabeth's sister Jane is now regarding Alice as a daughter. Elizabeth remarried and living next door.

Or it should read 'niece' but I've not seen the image. Taken as a daughter or assumed for 1881 to be a daughter.

It looks as though the children were all born after parents married so not much changing of names from mother's maiden name to father's name through the census. I noticed one name change after Elizabeth remarried.

Elizabeth married George Marsh as Needs but can't see a marriage to Edward Thorn.

Hello peeps . I just stumbled upon this site while googling. Henry Needs was my great great grandfather. His son Alfred, 1851 my G Grandfather. His son Alfred 1896 my Grandfather, who disappeared without trace in 1940. Have spent 30 years searching for him!
