Hello,

Death 25 Oct 1883/C01523 Pate Ellenor Ann - Samuel Adlam - Ellen Farmer

Death 5 Dec 1888/C02285 Pate William - Robert Pate - Rebecca Hartsom

The Northern Miner (Charters Towers, Qld. : 1874 - 1954) - Thursday 6 December 1888 p.3
FUNERAL NOTICE.
THE Friends of the Late WILLIAM PATE, late Engine Driver at the South Black Jack, are respectfully invited to attend his Funeral, which will leave at 11 o'clock, This Day, December 6.
BEN. TOLL, Undertaker.

So far I can't find Ellenor's death or funeral notice in TROVE.

Charters Towers Pioneer Cemetery covers an area of about 5 hectares on the western side of town. It was in use from 1872 to 1895, at which time the burial plots were exhausted and a new cemetery opened on the northern outskirts of town. The Pioneer Cemetery is believed to contain some 5,000 graves, although a mere 343 inscriptions are to be found today.
Not on the list - HERE

Regards,

Dave

Dave they would be buried in the Pioneer Cemetery about 8 houses from my place. There are not many headstones left considering the size of the cemetery and what grave makers there were have been thrown all over the place. But if you can wait until Monday i can get the burial record for William for you and i will see if Ellenor is listed as well.

Im not logging out but i will BBIAM That means be back in a minute

I presume William was an engine driver at a mine. That could mean a hoist in a shaft or an engine to power say a stamper crusher.

What sort of mine? Gold I presume.

Thanks.

The cemetery is like lots of Pioneer Cemeteries - showing signs of age.

The local council here didn't want the control of Gore Hill Cemetery transferred to it but it got it nevertheless.

Has to be him with an error in the name.

What a awful way to die ..... Drawn into cog-wheels

Dave you have this death for Ellenor

Death 25 Oct 1883/C01523 Pate Ellenor Ann - Samuel Adlam - Ellen Farmer

But yet the newspaper article on William's death in 1888 states he has a wife and kids. Did he remarry after Ellenor die?

The Northern Miner (Charters Towers, Qld. : 1874 - 1954)(about)
Thursday 6 December 1888

The deceased was a married man, 31 years of age, having a wife anil two young children residing at Millchester, -and he had been work ing at the South Black Jack for about a fort night. The poor fellow's'wife is near her confinement, and the shock must have beeu a terrible one to her

At least we now know why he had a wife when he died:rolleyes: He had remarried
The 1889 birth would be the baby she was pregnant with when he died.

A real harsh life here back then in the 1880's.

Birth
11 October 1883 Pate William Edward - William Robert - Ellenor Ann Adlam

Death
16 October 1883 William Edward Pate
25 October 1883 Ellenor

So the little fella only lived for 5 days and then Ellenor died 14 days after his birth. Complications with the birth by the sounds of it.
The baby's burial should be on the records here as well.
