William FAIRWEATHER b. about 1827 Arbroath, Angus ? d. 1902 NSW, Aust. - parents George & Jean ?

The names on his death reg below may be incorrect because I can't find his birth in IGI or SP.

Reg# 8330/1902 FAIRWEATHER WILLIAM GEORGE JEAN BALMAIN NORTH

William married in 1853 and their first child was born in NSW in 1855 although I can't find the shipping record:

12/12/1853 FAIRWEATHER WILLIAM RACHEL MCLEOD/FR8260 M Glasgow Glasgow CITY/LANARK 644/001 0440 0400

Hello juliejtp,

Yes, the same Rachel McLEOD from another topic. Looks like we have two brickwalls with this family. Yet another one not in IGI or ScotlandsPeople. There is an old WorldConnect entry but it has no sources.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave

Are you sure that his parents were George and Jean?

I have just looked at the batch number on the IGI for a William Fairweather baptism in Arbroath and I found a likely one:-

WILLIAM FAIRWEATHER

Birth 17 JUN 1826
Baptised 27 JUN 1826 Arbroath, Angus, Scotland

Father WILLIAM FAIRWEATHER
Mother MARGARET FORBES

It might be worth considering. Right time frame.

Ben

Hello Ben,

I had considered the possibility at least one parent was wrong on that death registration. However, the WorldConnect entry says his parents are George born abt 1807 Kirriemuir and Jean ALLAN also born 1807 Angus, although I wonder if her date is a guess since there is no parish. I will try and contact the author.

I can find no George FAIRWEATHER in IGI born 1805-1809 and Jean ALLAN is way too common.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Ben,

I've had no reply from the author of the WorldConnect entry. Looks like this one remains a brick wall.

Hello Ben,

I doubt both parents names are incorrect on his death reg.

Marine engineer
Index to the Unassisted Arrivals NSW 1842-1855
FAIRWEATHER W 28 'Waratah' Crew 13/2/1855 from Melbourne 401 2nd Engineer, Scotland

Their children were named:
Mary Jane
Jessie
James
Ann
Isabella
William

so there is no clue there if it is George & Jean or William & Margaret.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Ben,

I have only the WorldConnect entry to guide me so, yes, the place could be wrong. Looks like we are stuck because I have received no reply from the author of the tree.

I know very little for certain. He was a marine engineer from Scotland. :D

It's just one of many from Scotland and Ireland that can't be solved.

Regards,

Dave

Hello tiddy30,

Thank you for looking. I think the variations of the name would include FAY(E)WEATHER but possibly not FAIRWATER.

I think we are stuck. It would have been interesting to see where the author of the tree got the information from. Oh well.

About the only thing I can think of is to view the shipping reel in Sydney. It may have more information besides just 'Scotland' and his age, 28 in 1855.

Regards,

Dave
