Do you have any other info about William such as date of birth or place of birth? Can you also confirm this service was World War 2 and not World War 1. There was a William Stubbs serving with the Liverpool Regiment in WW1.

This is very frustrating, it seems your granddad re-enlisted in 1920 and his attestation papers are on Find My Past but for some reason the file will not open and I cannot view them. Basic details are :-

William George Stubbs
Age 30 Birth year 1890
Birth place Newent
Attestation year 1920
Service number 725607

These papers would probably give details of previous service.

I will report this to FMP and hopefully may eventually be able to access them.
Elaine

PS which medals have you got ?

I have managed to find that your grandfather served in WW1 with the Kings Liverpool Regiment but unfortunately I haven't been able to find any records of his service with them. The information came from a database held at the Museum of Liverpool and all it gives is name and number.Perhaps if you contact the Museum (I don't think they will do a search for you) they may be able to tell you where you can find further information. The National Archives perhaps.

If he was the William Stubbs who married a Lizzie Harbage in 1912 then it looks like he possibly re enlisted in the Royal Artilley after the war. I have found an attestation for him in 1920 which states that he was a Driver in the 2nd Mid. Bde. Royal Artillery and his discharge took place on 9th March 1922 after 4 years and 252 days of service. Soldier number was 725607.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.
