I've managed to find family links with William Gill a Scale cutter who was the first Chartist representative for Sheffield. However although I know he made several speeches information about him is quite sparse. Probably because he disociated himself from the Chartists who were suggesting violence and resigned. I have only one short quote from him around 1837. If anyone can find more information about him I would be greatful.

What I do know is that he lived in Club Gardens in the district of Sharrow. What I have found exciting is that his great Aunt lived a few doors away from Samuel Holberry, the chartist martyr. I can see him visiting his cousins and then going to see Samuel.

Sorry still nothing DW, i can find his name but with no mention on anything else. Just listed with other members etc. Found this, maybe they may have some info, just a thought.
