Hello,

Looking for the birth of William GITTOES about 1822 London - father George - mother possibly Mary Ann BYERS.

He married Mary HILDER (daughter of Moses) in NSW in 1849. I don't have a copy of the parish register entry yet. I've not found him in shipping records or in 1841. His death reg has the name as GITTOE.

Thanks.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Steve,

Thanks for looking.

I think the George bit is correct. It's possible he was a convict although I can't find him on the Transportation database or find a Pardon or Ticket of Leave or anything. Nothing at Old Bailey.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Ozn,

I have found nothing at all to indicate he was a convict except that he appears on the "Australian Royalty" site.

I'm currently working my way through all the HILDER children and spouse but not getting very far.

There is a huge railway viaduct at Picton build out of local sandstone but I don't think it was by convicts.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Julie,

Thanks for looking.

I can't see that name on the Unassisted to NSW Index - here.

It does appear on the Unassisted to Victoria Index:

GITTUS ---- MR 26 APR 1888 MANAPOURI N 223 002

But N=New Zealand and the date is way too late.

Regards,

Dave
