Been digging around on this today. Found this but i dont know if the info is correct or not. You may already seen it but ........

ID: I16066
Name: Mary Ann Gittoes 1
***: F
Birth: ABT. 1820 in England UK 1
Death: 30 SEP 1852 in Narellan NSW Australia 1
Burial: OCT 1852 St John's Camden NSW Australia 1
ARVL: 29 NOV 1829 "Lady Davidson" 1
Reference Number: Roo16066
Father: George Gittoes
Mother: Mary Ann Byers

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=rootes&id=I16066

I then went hunting this Lady Davidson ship but the only one arriving on the 29 November 1829 was a ship named Lucy Davidson. Found 1 page of the passenger list [it was supposedly convict ship] with the free passengers on it expecting to find the family on it but there only appears to be a Mary Ann and i cant read the last name properly  The passenger list is in the Bounty list in the NSW archives if you want a look. If Mary Ann is the right one on the ship she would have only been 9 according to her year of birth and appears to have no other family with her

Can you understand all that above? :2fun::2fun:

Thanks gibbo,

William married V1849219 34C/1849 GITTOES WILLIAM HILDER MARY MY= CofE Camden, St John's, Oaks, Picton, Stonequarry

His death 3008/1884 GITTOE WILLIAM GEORGE MARY A CANTERBURY

Parents ??
George GITTOES and Mary Ann BYERS

That death is not Mary his spouse so it must be a sister.

News to me, thanks.

I'll have a look at the Bounty records.

I can't find any Mary GITTOE(S).

I can't even find a way to go to a particular vessel.

How did you find one page of the passenger list?

arrival: Lucy Davidson
Convict vessel

Master: Wm Wiseman
Origin: London 1829 Jul 20
Destination: Sydney 1829 Nov 29

When you browse the images you get a list of names and the closest is a Hannah GITTENS.

How could a 9 yo arrive alone on a convict vessel? Brother William was born about 1822 so he was 7. :2fun:

So did father George arrive as a convict?
Not that i can see. The only convict i can see with the name Gittoes is a Richard in the 1830's.

You asked me to read the faint passenger list for the vessel 'Lucy Davidson' so I did. ;) He was in Steerage. I presume his mother or father was a convict on board.

That is a list of lots of vessels. One vessel per line depending how many passengers. The vessel below is the 'Mary Ann' which arrived the same day.

Date in 2nd, vessel name in 3rd column and name of master in 4th column.

Not that I can find. No sign of a George GITTOES on the Transportation database.

So if that tree is correct then Mary Ann was 9 and William was 7 so who did they arrive with and how does that author get the arrival date?

I'll add Mary Ann to my tree. That's one more marriage I can try to find on film at the library. Hope it has some details on it.

V18361331 19/1836 CRANFIELD WILLIAM GITTOWS ELIZABETH CR= CofE Cobbity, Narellan

The Camden Pioneer Register is not 100% accurate. Don't know how they get 1835.

:2fun: It's also Elizabeth.

Six free women and 17 children also arrived as passengers on the Lucy Davidson.

Elizabeth Perrett is not listed as a convict on that vessel so she must have been one of the 6 free women.

Age at death fits with other details:

V18521130 38B/1852 CRANFIELD MARY A AGE 32

Have no age at death for William. We might be able to find more by tracing his sister.

Mary HILDER was under age and both parents were living at time of marriage. I've not been able to confirm all of this:

1. Mary Hilder
Born: 12 Jan 1834
Baptised: 1 June 1834 in Laterham Mountfield, Sussex, England
Arrived 10 Mar 1839 on the 'Susan'
Spouse: William Gittoes
Marriage: 20 August 1849 in Vanderville, The Oaks, NSW
Died: 8 Feb 1887 in The Oaks, NSW
Burial: 10 Feb 1887 in St Johns, Camden NSW
Cause of Death: Congestion of the brain

I didn't see the word 'Vanderville' on the register.

Marriage index says Elizabeth.

Death V18521130 38B/1852 CRANFIELD MARY A AGE 32

I have not found that marriage yet. It probably won't list parents.
