Am having no luck finding the ship/details on how the above got to New Zealand. Both from Dublin & left for New Zealand 1884-1885. There first child Clara is listed in New Zealand BDM as being born in 1885. It is my belief they sailed to Auckland New Zealand. Hoping someone can help.
Many thanks.

Hello,

The thing about passenger lists to NZ is that you almost need to know the name of the vessel. Sometimes the port and the year is enough.

I'll have a look assuming it is Auckland.

Regards,

Dave

Thank you once again Dave. I have reviewed my information & find that William & Sarah married April/June 1885 Rathdown Wicklow and I gather they were placed very soon after that on a ship to New Zealand.
There first child a daughter is listed as being born 1886 No 313 (so born early in that year).
Hope this may help.

There are dozens of lists created by individuals and organisations. Many do not list the steerage passengers.

Attempts are being made to consolidate the lists. But, there are several organisations going it so it's still a 'mess' in many ways. I've searched the two main databases and I can't find them from UK to Auckland.

All I've found so far is a Mr W. FRANKS from Sydney to Auckland on the 'Mararoa' in 1886.

Thanks Dave - funny enough I had goggled the Mararoa as a potential thread. Maybe they arrived early January 1886. Are you able to tell me where to look for this lead.
Many thanks once again for your help.
deedeejo16.

I have found some other potential ships but have absolutely no idea now to access passenger information. As you have stated many are being consolidated. if anyone knows how to access information/passenger lists on the following: Crusader; katherine; Duchess of Argyle; Laira;Vanduara; & hermoine would be grateful. Have spent a long time on this piece of information..... it must be somewhere.
Many thanks

Thank you OZNANNIE & GIBBO ..... still in the dark.
Maybe you guys could help me solve the next great missing link of our family history.
William Hamilton Franks & Sarah Letitia Maud franks (nee Jones) had 5 children. The 4th born in 1895 was Robert Franks (my maternal grandfather). He appears in 1915 in the AIF (enlisted Ayr Queensland) as Eric William Russell. Served in the war; returned to Qld - kept the name of Eric Wlliam Russell, but on his death certificate he finally pre-fested up & lists his parents as William & Nellie (assume this was Sarah's nickname) FRANKS.
We assume Eric William Russell was a family friend ? to young to enlist in the NZ Defence force. This is proving to be a great matter to our family as we have named children Russell; William; Eric; Erica etc in his memory ... not that names mater BUT it would be so nice to find the Franks & Russell families to solve this great mystery.

Firstly, with your William Hamilton Franks, have you tried emailing the National archives in New Zealand and or the National Library New Zealand and asking for help to find him on a passenger list? Not all passenger lists are online but one of these might have a list with him on. I have found most archives quiet helpful. Keep in mind sometimes we just cant find them no matter how hard we try.

Your Robert Franks/Eric William Russell. When did the name change appear to take place? Is there any chance he may have gotten himself into a bit of trouble and moved to Australia with a new name maybe or did he change his name after arriving here. Maybe a family feud??. You are sure these 2 names are the same person?

The death cert. stating mothers name as Nellie. The info on these are only as good as the informant of death gives. Sometimes there are errors with this info. Have you obtained his marriage cert.? would be interesting to see if parents names are noted on it.

These links might be worth having a look at if you havent already. Sometimes newspapers can be a great help.

All this seems familiar, have we looked at this before?

Thank you all for the above information. I would say from what I have heard from relatives that Robert Franks/Eric Russell was a "wild boy" & would not surprised me that he got into trouble with the authories. He fought the authories most of his life.
Yes many years ago an Aunt confirmed he was the one & same ... unfortunately never got to see her information. She did make contact with the Russell/Franks family. On his AIF enlistment he lists his sister (Celia) known as Maud Hill as NOK. He enlisted in Ayr North Queensland - so have never been able to trace in what year he left New Zealand & if he left as Robert Franks or his assumed name of Eric William Russell. Also on his enlistment he lists that he was in the "Taranki Rifles" in New Zealand. I have got an Eric William RUssell's WW1 records & nothing seems to match.
