This couple married in St Alipius Catholic Church, Ballarat, Victoria in 1863

William Howie was from Scotland - born 1827 - and came over on the Hero in 1855, a farm steward. I am trying to find his parents.

William died May 1 in 1890 an dis buried at Charlton, Victoria.

this info has been passed down but I am trying to get proof of his parents back in Scotland. They are suspected to be Robert of Yetholm and his wife Jane

Thanks in advance

Barbara

Thanks Geoff

Yes, I know, a member of the family history society where I do voluntary research is one of the tree holders but he has no proof as far as I can see to connect Wm with this couple in Yetholm. And we know how Atree gives nice suggestions. . I don't want to do his Scottish family without something to say he came from Yetholm. I could give him somebody else's family!

Hi Barbara

Would completely agree.

The reason I stopped there was because there were 2 possible marriages which also brought more doubt

Geoff

I am hoping that one of our Australian friends on here can find something with his parents on it. I have tried Trove but not finding anything.

How accurate is this?

janet ethel howie was born in 1851 in glasgow, scotland. her parents were hugh howie born about 1813 in ayr, scotland.her mother was janet breckenridge born abt 1818 in ayr, scotland. the howie family arrived in adelaide in july 1852 on the ship `steadfast`.the other children were william howie born august 7th,1837 in riccarton, ayr, scotland.his spouses were honora kean and anna beale

Have not found anything yet to prove that is totally wrong.

Anopther tree with marriage to Anna Beale and different parents for William:

Index to Unassisted Inward Passenger Lists to Victoria 1852-1923
HOWIE WILLIAM age 28 - APR 1855 EAGLE - B= British port 091 005

I'd believe PROV = Public Records Office of Victoria.

PROV only lists 'Hero' for March 1855 - Unassisted passengers.

I'll see if I can find more.

We clearly have 3x William, different ages and parents, and several trees that are not totally reliable.

I would say the one who married Anna Beale could not be the one who married Honora.

Have found nothing yet for the William with father Hugh.

A copy of the 1863 marriage ???

Thanks Geoff for finding the wills. Could only download the second part but def no mention of a second wife as Honora is alive, Dave so they are different people.

The death looks promising with it being Robert Howie and Jane Wilson which are the couple in Yetholm.

Guess I start doing this family in Yetholm and might find something to tie in.

Thanks for your help everyone

Barbara
