No luck with William in 1841, but did find this Jas Masterton merchant seaman born abt 1811, born Scotland residing at Marquis of Glasgow, Midlothian.

Thank you very much.

I'd say you have the right family. The children fit from 1841 to 1851 to 1861. I think Cecilia is the key - named after her grandmother Cicel BLACK.

The only odd thing is that a seaman becomes a weaver ??? And a weaver in Torryburn. Those born in Torryburn or Markinch who did become weavers ended up in Dunfermline.

However:

Tambourer - Embroiderer using hoops to hold the cloth.
