Just recieved a marriage entry for John William Johnstone-Gordon b. 17 Aug 1874, Perth, Scotland and wife Sarah Mary Anne Hoppy b. 1883, Hutt, New Zealand

On this entry it gives John Williams parents as
William John Johnstone-Gordon and Mary Jane Johnstone-Gordon nee Gordon

Still not sure if it should read Johnstone-Gordon as a double barrel surname or not, though it does look like that is correct. What i am looking for is information on the birth of John William junior (1874) and his family, if he had siblings, when his parents got married etc. It states that John william (1874) was a Groom and that his father was a Gentleman.........one presumes that he had his own means.

Any help would be welcome, i have not done any research ont he Scottish side until now.

Thanks

Claire

Hi Clare
I have been trying the Scotlandspeople website for you but it does not accept the double barrelled surname, neither could I find a birth in Scotland as John William Johnstone. The marriage came unstuck as well.

I did find 2 births in the GRO for 1874 but only under Johnstone

John William Johnstone April-June 1874 Easington 10a 566
John Johnstone Oct-Nov 1874 Ulverston 8a 760

I do not think that this is much help but I have tried !!

Hi

Many thanks for looking into my scottish research, that first birth one that you found is the closest to the birth date i have, there could be a probablity that the birth date i have is incorrect, as i have not been able to contact the family involved yet, due to an error on ancestry.........that i have been getting with messages.

They will be found eventually.............another wall to knock down.

How is gorgeous Wales.....
