I can't find a birth for this William JONES:

I also can't find the marriage of his father Henry Owen.

There's no mention of a middle name, Owen, but it's not uncommon to omit middle names!

Haven't looked through your previous threads yet, so I'm not sure if Margaret is his mother!

Hello Josie,

Thanks. I have found nothing that gives any clues as to his mother's name.

That non-conformist record could explain why I found nothing on the Lancs OPC site.

I can't even find a death in NSW for Henry or the arrival of the family in Australia.

Tried 1841 without luck already.

Yes. That didn't solve the problem. If only that record you have just found had a birth as well as the baptism date that matched.

It might pay to spend more time trying to find Henry O in England and Australia.

I think Henry holds the key.

The funeral notice says this has to be the one:

V18542156 41A/1854 JONES HENRY AGE 37

No mention of spouse or family. Just another notice from a Lodge.

That means the marriage was not much before 1836. Time for the birth of one son before William.

We have nothing to say apart from 'Henry O' for the death of a John JONES that he is the elder brother of William. There is no sign of a birth/baptism established or NC for a William JONES born 1836 +/- 2 with father Henry and Mother Grace.

I'm back to the conclusion there is no connection between that John and William and that we still don't know the name of William's older brother or Henry Owen's spouse.

Anyway, for what it's worth, I've just been preparing the following doc!

According to Trove, Henry Owen Jones died in 1854.

The only two deaths of Henry Jones in 1854 recorded in NSW are Henry B with parents Joseph B and Virtue and Henry with parents William and Rebecca.

The only marriage I can find in England of Joseph Jones and Virtue took place in 1736, which is a tad too early!

Although we know that William Jones was born in Lancashire, I am not sure that we know where Henry was born. Is this correct?

If so, here are a couple of possibilities...

I had a look in Wales, but nothing shows up with mother Rebecca or Virtue!

Sorry I can’t find any definite, but I just hope I have given you some food for thought!

Just been calculating the date of Henry's birth - 1816-17! So the above links can't be right if the stated death age is correct!

Thanks for looking. You forgot to do one thing. Change the radio button from births to deaths.

Only the one death in 1854 and age 37 with no parents listed.

I went back to TROVE for the 1916 death of John with father Henry O and Grace and found no death or funeral notice.

I did find this but I don't think it helps. I'm not convinced John is a brother.

I am now wondering how accurate the date of birth is on the MI. If the informant didn't know William's mother what about date and place of birth?

If we say about 1836 Lancs is correct and Henry with born about 1817 then he must have married about 1834 or 1835. We still are not sure of the name of his first son. I agree the marriage may not have been in Lancs or the birth of the first son there either.

William's 3 children are:

George Henry
Ada Mary
William Francis Lewis

That points me to Wales.
