Hello,

NSW marriage 450/1867 McCREDIE WILLIAM - LATIMER MARGARET - SYDNEY

Can't find a marriage notice in TROVE. Can't find a tree.

I'm having a hard time finding anything on either of those.

Can't find anything in TROVE yet that helps.

Middle name of a daughter might be a clue I should have posted on Scottish board. :)

NSW birth 462/1870 McCREDIE JANET McALPINE - WILLIAM - MARGARET - SYDNEY

The Sydney Morning Herald - Tuesday 3 April 1894 p.1
Marriages.
PENFOLD - MACREDIE.-March 6, 1894, at St. Stephen's Church, Sydney, by the Rev. T. E. Coulston, assisted by the Rev. George Campbell, William Clark, eldest son of E. T. Penfold, Burwood, to Jean, second daughter of the late William Macredie, Ultimo.

Yes, Janet is Jean. Even more reason this should be on the Scottish board.

Regards,

Dave

I looked at this one yesterday and noticed there are a number of possibilities here..

I followed one who appears to a seaman/cook

He appears to be sailing up and down the east coast (local shipping), most of the origins appear to be Scotland/Glasgow.

This looks interesting..

Just to muddy the waters there is this with Irish connections..

New South Wales, Australia, Assisted Immigrant Passenger Lists, 1828-1896
Name: Margaret Latimer
Birth Year: abt 1842
Age: 23
Arrival Date: 25 Jan 1865

On the original it appears to be the same family

Must be some sort of transcription problem.

I think Thomas and William are second cousins.

It seems Thomas sponsored the families that included William's future spouse.

Robert McCREDIE & Janet

Children included:

William b. 1800 - married Elizabeth

---- son Thomas b. 1831 Co Down

Robert b. 1801 - married Janet McALPIN(E)

I don't know if William was originally a merchant seaman and later became a builder.

Thomas looks to have arrived first. He married in NSW in 1856:

5/1856 McCREDIE THOMAS - SMEALS [SMAILS] JESSIE - SYDNEY

First marriage for Thomas 4 Mar 1852 in Gorbals, Glasgow, Lanark to a Mary Anne LATIMER

Arthur Latimer MCCREDIE b. 24 Jun 1853 in Glasgow, Lanark

A tree has a death for Mary Anne in 1853. I can't find her death in NSW.

If the tree is correct Thomas arrived 1853 - 1856.

Mary Ann's parents Arthur & Margaret.

So 2nd cousins married sisters.

I have not looked yet to see if any site can confirm what the tree has.

I've been going through all the convict originals I downloaded. I'm having trouble finding a convict on the page of each that is one of mine. :D

I tried to do the convicts in order in several topics here but I don't actually have a written list of them. That's the next thing to do. :)

:2fun:

I thought it was Scotland - Ireland - NSW

I'm looking for these:

Robert McCREDIE & Janet m. 3 Jun 1825 St Cuthberts, Edinburgh, Midlothian

William b. 1800 - married Elizabeth CURRAGEN m. 2 Jan 1825 Wigtown, Wigtownshire

The tree does not have pob for William 1800 or Robert 1801.
