William Read m Hannah Smurthwaite 1770 Auckland St Helen

Hi,

Does anyone have access to the parish registers for Auckland St Helen, Durham?
If so could I have a look up for the marriage of William Read and Hannah Smurthwaite on 10th July 1770. I'd like to know the full details.

Plese disregard my request for deatils of the marriage as I have found it browsing the Durham BT's on familysearch. Instead could I have your thoughts on the following:-

William Read (born 1739 in Harewood Yorkshire) and wife Hannah have 7 children between 1773 and 1790 in Harewood. I cannot find a marriage for William and Hannah around 1770 except for William Read and Hannah Smurthwaite in 1770 in Auckland St Helen Durham. The marriage entry doesn't mention any parish, it just gives their names and 'by banns'. According to the BT's they have a daughter Mary in 1771 and then are not heard of again. Well not in Auckland St Helen anyway.

Could they possibly have moved back to Harewood and had seven more children? What do you think, am I barking up the wrong tree?

Can't find another marriage on Ancestry and I'm having trouble loading FMP at the moment, when I can get back in I'll see if there is anything there.

I see your in Liverpool, do you have any access to records?? I'm having trouble locating my g g grandmother Mary Molyneux. I know it's a common name in your area and it doesn't help that her father was called John, any advice you can give me please?? She said she was born Ormskirk, but I've exhausted all records online looking for her, and no luck in this forum either just don't know what to do next, anything before her marriage in 1854 will be most welcome

Do you have any other deatails on Mary eg any idea of date of birth, who she married etc.

I presume you have tried all the usual sites like Free Reg and Lancs opc as well as all the various spellings for her surname?

Let me know what you have and I will have a dig round for you

Mary was born either Ormskirk or Liverpool c1828 her father was John Molyneux who was a carter. She married James Hegney 02/01/1854 St Nicholas Liverpool, they were both living at Plumbe Street. She died in 1898 Hackney.

I've tried every spelling I can think of, I even thought her parents were John Molyneux and Frances Daniels. They were married about the right time, they had a son called William....there was a William Molyneux who was witness at her wedding, the other witness was a Margaret Winrow. I found four baptisms, but nothing for a Mary. This is the problem, I'm not finding a baptism for her but I found this:

Are you sure Hannah's surname is Smurthwaite?? cos I found a marriage, but not to William Read:

Hi Amanda,

I've had a look on all the usual sites and as you say there are plenty of Marys to choose from but nothing definite.

Have you tried posting on the forum of the Liverpool and South West Lancs FHS. You don't have to be a member to post but if you haven't joined within six months any further posts will be barred.

By the way, does her marriage cert say whether or not her father was deceased only there is a Mary Molyneux in the Female Orphan Asylum in Toxteth Park in the 1841 Census - age given as 10 yrs which is close.

I've been checking on Ancestry and FMP, but haven't come up with a William Read marrying another Hannah, plenty of Marys but no Hannah's....yet
