Hi, i was wondering if you happened to know anything about the Russell line.
My Husbands Grandfather Howard Russell Kerr Williams was researching his wife's line but has passed on. He could never get further than James Riley 1800-1871 and Mary Russell. He had heard that Mary Russell was a decendant from the duke of bedford which i have now taken on this mission to determine the line.

If you know anything about James J Riley or Mary Russell that would be greatly appreciated. My Husbands Grandmother is Margaret Russell Furner. Daughter of Carl Russell Furner.:)

James RILEY & Mary RUSSELL
22 Feb 1819 Old Church St Pancras, London
Batch: M047931

An image of that marriage might be available.

Death 3831/1860 RILEY MARY A - JOHN R DIED GOULBURN GOULBURN

Empire (Sydney, NSW) - Tue 17 Jan 1860 p.1
DEATHS
At Goulburn, on the 14th instant, Mrs. Mary Ann Riley, the wife Mr. James Riley, aged 61 years.

Death 3611/1871 RILEY JAMES AGE 71 YEARS DIED GOULBURN GOULBURN * 29 Jun 1871

The Goulburn Herald and Chronicle (NSW) - Sat 1 Jul 1871 p.5
FUNERAL.
THE friends of the late MR. JAMES RILEY are respectfully invited to attend his FUNERAL, which will take place TO-MORROW (Sunday) at a quarter to three o'clock. The procession will move from his late residence, Auburn-street.
N.B.--No circulars will be issued. ROBT. CRAIG, Undertaker.

I don't have a copy of either death certificate so can't say who the informants were or how accurate the information is, especially age at death.

Being out on a branch of my tree not on my Furner direct line I've not tried to find birth/baptism and parents of either James or Mary.

That means it becomes a new query.

Says the business closed in 1837 and that they arrived in 1847 ...

A Mr & Mrs Riley and 4 children arrived 1837 per 'Juliet' according to an article in Trove. I have not traced those four children so they may or may not be William, Joan, Edward and Elizabeth.

Or did they arrive in 1847? Nothing yet found for an arrival that year. No search has been made yet for the family in 1841 census.

There is an image, Dave...

Not the best copy...

James is a bachelor and Mary a spinster.
Married by Banns.
Witnesses = [looks like] John Russell & J S Fuller... J S Fuller is possibly a church official as that name appears as a witness for others on the page.

Thanks Geoff.

Son William born abt 1829. I can't see the family in 1841 census. Don't know where James and Mary were born.

Not sure if that's an error in the obit with 1847 arrival. Seems odd if business closed in 1837 that it took 10 years to decide to leave.

I can't place James in Goulburn before Aug 1852.
