SMITH William - Indian 1810 - CP 31 Jan 1818 [4/4430] 774 - 116

Death reg is not much help:

5274/1865 SMITH WILLIAM AGE 81 YEARS DIED PARRAMATTA PARRAMATTA

5203/1864 SMITH ISABELLA AGE 74 YEARS DIED PENNANT HILLS PARRAMATTA

I would say no one has the birth/baptism records and calculation has been made using age at death.

Don't know if maiden name is HOPE or BROWN. If HOPE then Isabella married 3 times.

Also don't know if Isabella came free or not or when.

Isabella (Brown) Hope was born in Northumberland in 1790 was apparently related to a Lord Hope which one ? she arrived in Australia onboard "Duke of Portland" in 1807 under the name of Brown,
she married in 1808 to a John Jones who died shortly afterwards. Isabella then married
William Smith in Parramatta NSW in 1812.
If any one has information regarding Isabella and her early days I would be very greatful.

Thanks, Dave... I think I have a line now...
:2fun:

I may have made an error along the way because I'm now lost  connecting Jordan to Reuben SMITH and on to William 1810.

Ok Jordan Stuart SMITH > Robert SMITH > William SMITH the convict 1810

Robert's brother Reuben married Charlotte WILLIAMS daughter of Thomas WILLIAMS convict and Charlotte KENTWELL daughter of 2 convicts we looked at previously.

Isabella was said to be on the 'Duke of Portland' in 1807 as a free settler, it is also said she ran away with a servant. Interestingly there is a James Hope (alias Holme) on the same ship, possibly a relative.

I don't know where the BROWN comes in. Maiden name said to be HOPE but the marriage seems to fit with her has BROWN.

1812 marriage to William SMITH - I can't see a Permission to Marry.

If he arrived 1810 and 'Life' then I presume there would have been an application.
