I think we can rule out the death in 1866 in Qld.

One day I will find how William connects to my tree.

I was expecting to find the census not have Perth as pob for Donald.

Army pensioner and seems such an uncommon name for that location.

The other army pensioners I have also with names that are rare in Scotland were all born in southern England and ended up posted in Scotland and discharged in Scotland.

I take the info on the shipping record as being reliable re William's parents. Not sure he was born there although it has Perthshire for him.
