Hello,

Born 1772 ? Lyle, Somerset, died 1833 NSW

Convicted at ? on ? - 7 years

Arrived on 'Earl Cornwallis' in 1801 ?

Married in NSW or Norfolk Is ??

Mary HOWE b. 1778 Ireland ?

Convicted at Middlesex ? on ? - 7 years

Arrived on 'Nile' in 1801 ?

These two are proving harder to trace than the usual convict.

Regards,

Thanks gibbo. :)

Now I'm not sure what to believe. I was up to 11 but am I back to 10 convicts. :2fun:

If he came free then I can't see how he could get to Norfolk Is to meet Mary.

Mary HOW/HOWE/HOWET it is claimed ended up on Norfolk Is.

Son James was born on Norfolk Is in 1804 according to a tree. Yeah, how much of the tree can you believe?

CA = St Philip Sydney - that's on film at the library.

I wonder if there is a permission to marry somewhere? No.

All New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849

Name: William Speers
Vessel: Cornwallis
Province: New South Wales
Title: General muster
Year(s): 1822

In the column "Came Free or Born in Colony" it has: C F. :D not B C.

In the column about Free by Servitude or Absolute or Conditional Pardon or Ticket of Leave = blank

So how did the tree author get convicted - 7 years?

This is getting weird. :2fun:

He is listed as a 'Dealer Sydney'

On the line below

Mary Spears C F 'Minerva' Wife of do.

Oh dear. I'm down to 9 convicts now. :2fun:

Ok so it seems he wasnt a convict then.
I checked 2 different convict list on different sites for the Earl Cornwallis - 1801 and couldnt see his name on either.

Cooking stir fry and eating stir fry and digesting stir fry. :2fun:

Name: William Speers
Vessel: Cornwallis
Province: New South Wales
Title: General muster
Year(s): 1822

Speers William - CF - Cornwallis - Dealer Sydney
Speers Mary - CF - Minerva - Wife of do.
Speers John 21 BC
Speers James 19 BC
Speers William 16 BC
Speers George 14 BC
Speers Joseph 12 BC
Speers Mary 9 BC
Spers Francis 5 BC
Speers Elizabeth 1 BC

In the column after the name of the vessel there is written 7 or 14 or life and that column is blank for William and Mary.

So there must be 2x Mary HOWE.

Yes. :)

He is a sawyer like his father and parents live in Clarence street as per details in the link you posted. Age fits within a year from the 1822 muster.
