Hi

My 3xgreat grandfather was William Taylor born about 1823 in Wimbish, Essex.

He was baptised 22 Feb 1824 son of Allen and Ann Taylor.

He is on the 1851, 1861 and 1871 censuses in Canewdon, Essex. His wife Mary Ann and baby son John are both buried in Canewdon in August 1871 on the same day.

For ages I have tried to find a death after 1871 to no avail but now there is a breakthrough. Opinions please?

A William Taylor is buried in 1898 in Canewdon, Essex aged 81. Born about 1817. And a William Taylor is in the Rochford Workhouse aged 74 in the 1891 census. He gives his place of birth as Saffron Walden which is near Wimbish and Rochford is right near Canewdon.

Any ideas as this looks like it is a major brickwall being demolished before my very eyes.

Ben

Hi Ben,

Everytrhing seems to add up to being your William Taylor. I assume that you havnt found another William Taylor with those details. Whether his death certificate will give any clues, but it looks a good chance that he is yours.

Hi Julie

There was a William Taylor born 1816 Saffron Walden in the 1891 census but he was in Chrishall and I think he died just after the census.

My William Taylor's wife was buried in Canewdon in 1871 and it certainly looks like the one in 1891 in the workhouse in Rochford is mine. If he was buried in Canewdon then that also ties in as one of his sons was still in the village at that time and maybe he wanted to be buried near to his wife.

I cannot find any other William Taylors pre 1891 census apart from the one born 1816 living in Chrishall and he turns up on the 1891 census in Chrishall.

I am certain that he is mine. The occupation in 1891 tallies. Now I shall send for his death cert.
