I was rather apprehensive when I downloaded it but I have had no problems at all. I find it just as easy to use as Windows7. No problems with any of the programmes on the computer and if anything, it seems to have speeded up the computer as well.

After nearly 5 hours of waiting for Win 10 to download and install, I gave up.

Using nearly 50% of my 10g download capacity to get to that point.

I'll not bother with it.

Thanks for the input.:)

Steve.:)

Ooops, typo error(changed). Thanks Emeltee.;)

No wonder it took so long - I don't think Windows 11 exists yet, except perhaps on the drawing board!

Emeltee

Ps It took quite a while to download Windows 10 but no where near 5 hours. Irish broadband perhaps?

Well, I installed Win 10, and have spent all day with it. Uninstalling stuff that I don't want or need, and generally finding my way around.

The upshot was, I didn't like it. So now I'm back with Win 7.:)

I've just started downloading Win 10 to a USB drive.

I'm not too keen on the idea that you can't modifiy things until after the first update is automatically installed.

I might try to clone my active partition onto another hard disk before I install Win 10.

In general terms, the layout of windows has not changed much over the years, but this is far departure from what I'm used to. I have no experience of Win.8, but I have heard that 8 was not too good.
From a technical point of view, I see WIN 10 as far more useful for 'on the go' appliances, ie smart phones, tablets etc. As for a desktop situation, it seems 'out of place'.
Ayway, this old dinosaur is sticking with what I have, until I'm 'forced' to change.

I just wish that I could do what you are doing Dave, but it's far beyond what I can understand.:)

Steve, I'll explain it next week. Will do it over the weekend.

I might even set up a dual boot system.

I have a 1.5 TB disk which is for data.

I have 2x 320 GB disks that are now identical with Win 7 Ultimate after a piece of software on a boot CD copied the original HD sector by sector to the other. The copy took 90 min.

Now I will try to install Win 10 and see if I like it.

Started the install. Taking its time. "Making sure you're ready to install" "Please wait"

and wait, and wait ...

Warns me it's going to change my language and to change it back I need to install a language pack. ???

I am installing an English version on top of an English version.

The fonts and icons are all the wrong size because Win 10 won't let me use the default resolution of my new monitor.

My scanner won't work and there are no drivers for Win 10 yet.

Booting is extemely slow.

The biggest problem is the fan on my CPU. It is controlled by software (it changes speed depending on the CPU temperature) and the drivers don't work with Win 10. I downloaded drivers for Win 8.1 and uninstalled the old drivers. I then deleted the files and even the folders they were in and rebooted twice. The software is still on the list of apps even though the folder and files are no longer on hard disk.

The new drivers won't install because it says to remove the old ones first.

I have no choice but to return to Win 7.

It's working ok.

I could spend a lot of time changing fonts and sizes and icon settings.

Nothing is square. What should be square is stretched horizontally.

But not much use to me if my CPU fan won't change speed.

Don't know why an app that was deleted the proper way from inside settings stills shows on the list of apps.

New driver insists the old one is still on the system.
